Starting salary £19,346 with pension and other benefits

The Royal Engineers’ Museum tells the story of the Royal Engineers and how they have helped the British Army live, move and fight for over 300 years. Highlights include 25 Victoria Crosses, Wellington's map of Waterloo, Zulu War weapons, amazing bridge-laying tanks, a section of the Berlin Wall, Harrier Jump Jet and an enormous V2 Rocket. With interactive exhibits, indoor and outdoor play areas, café and gift shop, there’s plenty for all the family.

We are now seeking an energetic and enthusiastic person to join the team to help promote the Museum and its services such as exhibitions, events and school visits through traditional, digital and social media channels. The successful applicant will have a passion for customer service as the varied role also includes also welcoming visitors, helping them learn a little of the fascinating history of the Royal Engineers, answering their questions and contributing to their enjoyment of visiting the Museum.

The role involves some weekend working.

Responsibilities:

1. Work with Operations & Commercial Manager to promote the Museum, exhibitions, events and other REMLA services to target audiences, ensuring good value for money and increased visitor numbers.

2. Liaise with the local tourism bodies, heritage partners and the Corps to promote Museum services, events and activities.

3. Develop relationships with local media outlets to ensure a regular REMLA presence, producing press releases and copy as required.

4. Work with external designers on the creation of marketing literature and adverts.

5. Liaise with colleagues on the planning of special events and exhibition programming.

6. Deliver up-to-date content on the Museum’s website and social media as well as relevant third- party websites. 7. Collect and collate feedback and evaluation of Museum services and projects, including online analytics for the website and social media.

8. Work with Operations & Commercial Manager to develop and implement annual marketing plan to agreed budget.

9. Assist with staffing of Museum Reception, selling tickets and welcoming visitors.

10. Pro-actively engage with visitors as they make their way through the galleries, answer their questions, point out items of particular interest. 11. Occasionally give demonstrations and tours both in the galleries when necessary, very occasionally out of hours. 12. Serve in the Museum’s Courtyard Café. 13. Assist with events and family activities. 14. Some supervisory responsibility for volunteers and (occasionally) junior staff.

Personal Job Specification:

Experience

Essential:

 Experience of website and social media marketing

 Qualification or experience in marketing and advertising campaigns, preferably in a heritage or tourism setting

 Ability to collect and analysing customer feedback and wider market research.

 Experience in a customer-facing role preferably in a visitor attraction or service-led environment.

Desirable:

 Working Experience of graphic design and/or working with designers, creating design briefs and editing content.

 Experience of significant interaction with members of the public such as conducting tours, leading activities.

Skills

Essential:

 Sound numeracy and budget management skills.  High written and oral communication skills, including drafting publicity material and presenting confidently.

 Excellent interpersonal skills , team working, engaging with people of any and every background.

 Self-motivation and an ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines without supervision.

 Sound judgement and analytical skills.

Desirable:

 Graphic design skills and knowledge of Photoshop and similar software.

 Knowledge of or interest in the Armed Forces’ history and heritage.
