Final Report 2016

1. Programming-

a. In March, the WIU-QC CA offered a professional development panel to give counseling students and opportunity to ask professionals questions not answered in textbooks. We had three local school counselors and three clinical mental health counselors who have agreed to volunteer their time and experiences to help emerging counselors be prepared for the world outside of academia. We had a great turnout with over 20 counseling students, and all were thrilled with the information offered to them. We hope to continue providing this development panel each year for our students.

b. In April, WIU-QC CA worked with Chi Sigma Iota to host Take Back The Night on Western’s campus. The Counseling Association aided in recruiting tables as well as participating that evening. Art therapy, such as post secrets and mandalas, were offered to those visiting the table. We had a great turnout and cannot wait to collaborate with Chi Sigma Iota again!

c. The WIU-QC CA once again sponsored Manage Your Stress Week the week before final exams in lobbies and around campus in May. Healthy snacks such as fresh fruit, vegetables, granola bars, ice tea, and hot chocolate were provided, as well as multiple art therapy supplies for students passing by. We had many visitors and hope to continue improving this event for future semesters.

d. The WIU-QC CA ended the semester by holding an awards ceremony and recruitment event for the graduates and their families following graduation. Food was offered, superlatives were giving to the graduates, and information about counseling, the counseling program, and the Counseling Association were available for any families interested.
