Call To Order: The February 14, 2012 meeting was called to order at 2:35 p.m.

4. BSAD P150-Quantitative Methods of Business-tabled The course outline report is recording several courses as stand alone that are part of a certificate. There appears to be a problem with the report and not the actual course outline listing the courses as stand alone. Judy has reported this to the CNET help desk. Jon Satko discussed the math component of the class and requested to see a sample of the work required. Kailani will provide him with a copy of the book used for the course. The course outline is listed as meeting a PC Math requirement. Kailani would like this removed and only approved for meeting the PC Analytical Requirement. Miles asked if she was also removing the course from the Math requirement for the CSU and IGETC. The course was tabled for further discussion.

Bill said there is not an updated textbook. This course is a continuation of INDT P050. Jon Satko said his concern is when he reads the catalog description; the student will build skills and teaching them to be skilled workers. The SLOs discuss identifying skills. Jon said maybe it would be better if one SLO said demonstrate.

16. INDT P060-Power Technician Pre Apprentice The District offers a power tech that is not for credit. The division has taken that program and developed it for credit. Jon Satko said that words in the catalog description are capitalized and should they be? He also noted that “Green” is a trendy word. Bill informed the committee that this is the current industry term and if it changes then the division will readdress. Jon will correct the capitalized words in the catalog description.

17. INDT P061-Power Technician I Jon said there was a grammatical error in the catalog description and how the word creating is used. He suggested removing the word creating. Bill and Kailani agreed to the change.

19. MKTG P124-Principles of Marketing Kailani is removing BSAD P124 as the cross-listed course for MKTG P124. Kailani also requested that the course, BSAD P124 be deleted. The course will be included in the Board report as a deletion. Miles said BSAD P124 will need to be removed from the Porterville College checklist.

24. WELD P116-Arc and Gas Welding This course was temporary inactivated and the division is bringing it back for the proposed Industrial Maintenance Certificate. Jon asked about the lecture and lab and if it were robust enough. James said there is a lot of repetition required for welding. Kailani agreed to take the word critically out of the COR.

Old Business:
Other: Bret Davis discussed AB 1295, which is similar to 1440. Nursing is looking at ways to lower the required units for Nursing Degrees. This was informational for the committee. Options may be to lower units of courses or not requiring local PC graduation course requirements. Nursing will be submitting a proposal. Dale said there may be an exception for Nursing, requiring 70 units instead of 60.
Miles Vega submitted a proposal for catalog rights:
Catalog Rights/Continuous Enrollment
Students may graduate under the general degree requirements in effect:
1. At the time of first enrollment as long as continuous enrollment is maintained. OR. 2. If continuous enrollment is broken, under the requirements in effect at the time continuous enrollment is re-established and maintained, OR 3. Under the requirements in effect at the time of graduation.
Continuous enrollment means enrolling in at least one term during the academic year. For the purpose of continuous enrollment, an academic record year begins in the fall semester and includes the following spring and summer terms.
