14TH INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR FOR HIGH-QUALITY NON-FICTION

Post-release December, 4 2012 г. 2nd December 2012 became the last opening day of the fair. Fair was hold under support of the Federal print and media agency and of the Department of mass-media and advertising of Moscow. Fair was visited by 31 831 visitors during 5 days of its opening.

«The emotions of the fair are the most positive this year. Non/fictio№ it is not only a place of big sales. It is one of the few events which react upon processes taking place in the world of books, and it reacts immediately. It is a place of the fruitful conversation between writers and their readers” – Boris Kupriyanov, director of the Falanster project.

«Present fair is very successful. Very positive financial markers – today’s financial results are twice higher than in previous year. I liked many things – the stand of the “Independent alliance” was very good, exposition of Germany, the guest of honor of the fair, various interesting events. «I liked a lot the 2nd floor with children publishers. It was a very right decision to set everything connected with program for children in another place. Another zones and program of events were planed very correctly. The fair had great success», – Varvara Gornostayeva, chief editor of «Corpus».

The fair united 293 participants from 18 countries of Europe, Asia and America. The most prominent representatives of the book business meet traditionally in the Central House of artists to discuss results of the literary year, to analyze changes in the choices of modern readers. Publishing houses, literary unions and cultural foundations proposed to visitors of non/fictio№ high-quality and rich choice of humanitarian, scientific, educational and fiction literature. During 5 days at the 7 discussion zones and at the stands of the participants took place over 300 events – presentations, creative meetings, round tables, master classes and discussions. Under support of embassies and cultural centers 40 foreign guests from Belgium, the UK, Germany, Denmark, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, America, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Sweden and Japan, and over 50 Russian authors. Representatives of the most prominent publishing houses, writers, literary critics, translators meet their readers to present to them the newest editions and to discuss actual questions and process. The important part of the business program of the fair became meetings with authors. Crowds of readers came to take part in events with Michael Kumpfmüller, Peter James, Emmanuel Carrère, Petr Sabach, Lyudmila Ulitskaya, Dmitry Bykov, Eugene Grishkovets, Irina Yasina, Yuriy Kublanovsky and other Russian and foreign readers.

Germany was the guest of honor of non/fiction 2012, and it became one of the important events in frame of cross-cultural year of Germany in Russia. During the fair there were a row of meeting with German authors and publishers. The organizers of these meetings were the Embassy of Germany in Moscow, Goethe-Institut and Frankfurt book fair. The title of the guest of honor of the next year will be hold by Switzerland, which representatives took part also in this fair, they organized interesting various events. For the first time in the fair history special place was given to children publishers. The 2nd floor of the CHA was given special to the literature and program for children. The “children floor” was highly appreciated by visitors with children, and in the future this innovation will be actual practice of the fair. Except this innovation organizers of the fair started to sell e-tickets to the fair. It obviously made queues less. About 700 people used e-tickets this year. Federal agency for print and mass-media and organizers of non/fiction gave supported small independent publishing houses.
