Dr. Lee Wilbur: He spoke about interprofessional education (IPE). The IPE pilot program will begin August 24, 2014. It incorporates different learning experiences each semester for two years. At the end, students will receive a certificate of completion. There will be an advisory board created by and for the students.

Mary Ryan: She explained how to get in the library when there is inclement weather. During inclement weather, there is a different website that comes up. Students may swipe their card and enter through the back door on the first floor. The active learning center, study rooms, smaller group study room, history of medicine room, break room with vending machine, and the glass area on the first floor are areas that are open 24/7. If a student’s ID does not work, someone will let him/her in and look up his/her name in the database to make sure he/she is coded in the system correctly. When the library is closed, there are services still available, such as the interlibrary loan service request. From 7:30-5PM on the weekdays, reference help is available. Students may send an email to the Reference email address and get answers to Reference questions. The library will be closed Saturday, December 21, 2013 through Wednesday, January 1, 2014. It will reopen on Thursday, January 2, 2014. The 24/7 areas and Reference service will be available every day, except for on the holidays. The holiday schedule is posted on the website.

Student Health Insurance Clinic Committee Notes

 There are 12 members on the student health insurance committee (2 reps from each college)  This committee will meet once a month to discuss healthcare insurance and the student health clinic as it relates to students.  Currently the UAMS student policy is provided by Academic Health Plans and underwritten by United Health Care.  Each month a committee member will meet with student health clinic staff to voice student concerns. This meeting will take place the second Thursday at 1:30 pm. monthly. The committee will try this layout again for now.  This year students will have the option to enroll in the university sponsored policy or a policy offered by the Arkansas Exchange. Currently the exchange has 3 policy options with over 200 add on’s.  To assist with the opening of the AR Exchange Campus Life and Student Support Services invited Kendra Johnson an In person Assistor to speak about the subject matter and how it affects students.  An in-person Assistor is a person trained to help you navigate and understand the exchange and policy options available.  The goal for the committee is to raise awareness of the exchange and its functions.  In January we have scheduled for Kendra Johnson to return on the 22nd and present to all students during the lunch hour (noon-1pm). It is our hope she can answer questions and present information concerning the new marketplace. Lunch will be served to the first 50 students.  This week I attended all of the CHP registrations to let students know the student insurance portal will open December 17th and they will be able to log/update their student health insurance information. Students will be given until February 5th to complete this requirement. Students that go into the portal before 12/17 time stamp will not count towards spring registration and they will be made to complete the process again. This information has also been linked to the Campus Life webpage.
