The Value of Sport and Physical Education

Sports Funding 2016-17 Since September 2013 the Government has allocated funding directly to primary schools to support the provision of quality PE/sport. The premium must be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport, to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles. Each school will receive £8 000 plus an extra £5 per pupil each year– here at Beechfield School that will mean around £9,500 per year. It is important that we use the money wisely. In order to get the best value and maximum impact for our children, we plan to use the money to:

School Sports Partnership Contract The School Sports Partnership through Three Rivers and Watford will deliver a specialist PE service. The partnership will provide strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation of programmes designed to enhance the provision of PE and school sport. In partnership with Rickmansworth School and other primary schools in our family, the funding will pay for the services of a PE specialist and apprentice who will visit the school on a regular basis. The specialist will also arrange tournaments and festivals giving our children opportunities to compete with children from our family of schools and beyond.

Purchase of Resources Funding will be used to purchase a wider range of sports equipment to use within PE lessons and with sports coaches at lunchtimes.

Increase participation in school sport We wish to enhance our provision by employing specialist coaches to deliver activities for children in all key stages. Coaching for specific sports will take place in lunchtime and after school.

How will impact be measured?  Equipment is fit for purpose and used more effectively to deliver high quality lessons. Observations of children and staff during PE lessons.

 Increase in pupil participation in PE/sport

 Pupil and staff questionnaire

 Sports audit

It is expected that schools will see an improvement against the following 5 indicators: 1. the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick starting healthy active lifestyles 2. the profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement 3. increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport 4. broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils 5. increased participation in competitive sport
