InformaGiovani organizes its camps always in co-operation with a local partner which is mentioned in the description. The partner is responsible for the work plan.

Working time

In each camp, work is organized on a 5 days per week base. Normally the week-end is free but, according to the task assigned to the volunteers, it may happen that also Saturday or Sunday are working days. In such case, volunteers will have free days during the week. Daily work can be, according to weather con- ditions and need of the camp, from 5 to 7 hours.

Age of volunteers

Due to insurance reasons, the age of volunteers accepted in IG camps is from 17 to 65 years, but not all camps, due to decision of the local partners or to the working situation, are open to volunteers under 18. In each camp on e-vet database we clearly mention the actual age limits for the specific situation. When we get applications from volunteers over 35, we inform them of the possibility to be “old” in “young” groups and give the possibility to take a tough decision. In any case, volunteers under 18 must apply attaching to the application form the declaration released by responsible kin or guardian, as for the model available on http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20365838/IG_und18- form.doc Applications from volunteers under 18 will be rejected if not accompanied by the mentioned form.

Insurance

All volunteers joining IG camps are ensured by general insurance scheme subscribed by Informa- Giovani with CAES (Italian Consortium of Ethical Insurance). This scheme cover: - Medical assistance (up to 1.000 euro) only for causes connected to the workcamp - Death - Permanent handicap resulting from an injury incurred during the workcamp - Liability toward third parts (in case of damages to persons of goods caused by the volunteer during the camp, the insurance will cover all related costs) This scheme do not cover travel risk and travel days. Information on the insurance system are provided to each volunteer together with the infosheet.

Extra fee

Each volunteer participating to IG camps has to pay an extra fee of 10 Euro. The fee is to be paid once, no matter how many camps the volunteer will attend and is to be paid on arrival to the first camp, to the camp leader. Fee is needed in order to provide insurance to the volunteer (actual cost of the insurance is 12 Euro for each volunteer for our organization) and is compulsory even if the volunteer has his/her own insurance.

What to bring

In each camp organized by InformaGiovani, volunteers must bring the following things: - Sleeping bag - European Sanitary Card (if they are from one of the EU 27 countries) Other specific items needed in each camp are mentioned in the infosheet sent to volunteers.

______InformaGiovani Late arrival/Early leaving

Each volunteer is expected to arrive at the camp place on the first day and leave on the last day. In case of exceptional circumstances, he/she can arrive one day earlier or later and can leave one day earlier, informing in advance the camp leader or the contact person mentioned in the infosheet. Information on arrival/departure time are to be sent to the camp leader no later than one week before the camp. Late minute applications/inscriptions are not involved in this rule. One day of early arrival and one day of late leaving are not subject to any extra fee or other cost, provided the volunteer has to take care of his/her food.

Extra days

Only if previously communicated to and agreed with the camp leader or the placement team of In- formaGiovani, and only when technically possible due to hosting place, the volunteer can stay more days for personal need and/or tourism. In such a case an extra fee of 5 Euro per each extra day is foreseen and is to be paid in advance. The volunteer remain responsible for his/her food. Extra days are not covered by our insurance.

VISA issues

Volunteers from countries whose citizens are required to have VISA to enter Italy, must provide to the placement team of IG the visa information form available at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20365838/IG_visa- form.doc as soon as they get confirmation of acceptance in one IG camp. IG team will than provide an invitation letter and will provide full assistance to volunteers in their dealing with Italian authorities. Copy of the insurance contract is attached to the invitation letter. Please note that: - some Embassies or VISA offices, require also info about travel insurance and about travel tickets. Together with the invitation letter, we will provide you the copy of our general insurance contract, but please be ready to provide information on travel at any stage of the VISA issue procedure. - the invitation letter is normally send only by email. It is upon volunteer responsibility to check if an original is needed and to provide IG placement team with correct info to delivery it. IG staff is able to interact only with Italian authorities. It is therefore upon volunteer responsibility to check what needed in case of transit in other countries than Italy or in case a Schengen visa is required to a country different than Italy.

______InformaGiovani InformaGiovani - IG Italy DESCRIPTION

1- IG 11.1 WAVES OF LEGALITY, WAVES OF CITIZENSHIP - Palermo 17/05-25/05/11 STUD 15 VOLS WORK: The camp is part of a wider project which aims to reinforce the role of organized civil society in combating and preventing crime and fostering the co-operation between the law enforcement system and civil society. It will involve 143 participants from 5 countries (50 of them with fewer opportunities) in activities connected to the promotion of culture of legality, promoting their civic commitment and their awareness on their role of active citizens toward crime prevention. The wider project, is focused on two main activities: - an international seminar run in February in Paris on the role of civil society in combating and preventing crime and possible cooperation with the law enforcement institutions - the participation of an international group of citizens to the celebrations and the initiatives connected with the 19th anniversary of the murder of the judge Giovanni Falcone, killed by mafia. During the camp, participants will take part in all the activities connected to the anniversary, having debates and exchanges with Sicilian participants, meeteing students, taking part in the so called “Boat of legality” which bring 2.000 Italian students to the celebrations. This last event organized in the past only for Italian participant, has normally a wide media coverage, with more than 800 accredited journalist from all over the world, thus providing a very high visibility to the project and the Europe for Citizens programme. ACCOMODATION: Participants will partially stay in a youth hostel in Palermo and partially (two days) on the so called “Boat of legality” LANGUAGE: ENGLISH / and : Italien LOCATION: Palermo and its surroundings. The programme foresee quite intensive meetings. Evenings are free to join night life in the city TERMINAL: Palermo SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Interest in the specific subject to be expressed in the special application form. REMARKS: A contribution to travel costs of about 70% is foreseen. Participants will pass a selection process.

2- IG 6.1 SEA AND MOUNTAINS OF ERICE 1 - Palermo 11/06-23/06/11 ENVI , 8 VOLS SPECIAL FEE 10.00 EUR WORK: Erice is a small city, splitted into two different areas of the territory. The new part is near- by the sea, the old part is on the top of an hill. Volunteers will work some days on the rocky shores of the seaside to clean them and some days on the top of the hill, in the wood surrounding an old around the middle-age castle, to clean an historical path. ACCOMODATION: Volunteers will be hosted in the city sport hall, sharing the same big room. Separate WC and shower-room for males and females are provided. Volunteers will cook by themselves LANGUAGE: ENGLISH / and : Italien LOCATION: Both the old and the new part of Erice are among the most important turistic places of Sicily due to the marvelous mixture of history and art (on the top) and amazingly sparkling sea. Volunteers will have the opportunity also to visit the famous natural reserve “Lo Zingaro”. TERMINAL: Palermo SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Due to its geographical position, Erice experiences a very strange climatic situation: you can have 40 degree celsius in the day and 5 in the night. Volunteers must be therefore properly equipped to face both extreme warm and cold temperatures. SPECIAL FEE 10.00 EUR

3- IG 1.2 KWA DUNIA Parma 25/06-04/07/11 SOCI ,KIDS , 7 VOLS SPECIAL FEE 10.00 EUR WORK: The summer project will take place during the intercultural festival in Collecchio, which gathers and makes visible all the migrant communities in Parma province. It is a big event which shows more than 10 migrant communities involved, together with local associations, in cooking traditional dishes ______InformaGiovani from Kurdistan, African countries and Asia , organizing cultural activities and helping in the general man- agement of the festival which is quite a big event. Volunteers will help Kwa Dunìa local volunteers in managing the local intercultural library at the festival and managing workshop for children during the day on the themes of intercultural learning. Study part will be intercultural learning. ACCOMODATION: Accomodation will be inside a local youth hostel. LANGUAGE: ENGLISH / and : Italien LOCATION: Parma is a very nice city in the middle of Emilia Romagna region, close to the hills and to the sea. Volunteers will have the possibility to join multicultural festival in Parma surroundings which takes place during that dates. TERMINAL: Parma SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Motivation to join intercultural activities, some Italian language knowledge is warmly welcome. REMARKS: Some knowledge of Italian language is Welcome! SPECIAL FEE 10.00 EUR

4 - IG 6.3 WHITE RABBIT HOUSE 1 Ancona 28/06-06/07/11 ENVI ,CONS , 17 ans. 10 VOLS SPECIAL FEE 10.00 EUR WORK: The aim of the projects will be to build a eco friendly house which will be used as meeting place for farmers, long term volunteers, only using natural materials, such as pressed straw, recycled materials, and to feed it with only renewable energies, such as solar panels or wind mills which will be self made. Volunteers will be therefore involved in this construction work, also guided by the General coordinator. Study part will be on Permaculture, sustainable construction and renewable energies as all are ways to light- en our footprint on the planet. ACCOMODATION: Accomodation will be in a house LANGUAGE: ENGLISH / and : Italien LOCATION: To be agreed TERMINAL: Ancona SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Nothing specific SPECIAL FEE 10.00 EUR

5- IG 1.1 FOSSOLI NAZI CAMP. PLACES OF MEMORY Reggio Emilia 01/07-10/07/11 RENO ,MANU ,EDU , 17 ans. 11 VOLS SPECIAL FEE 10.00 EUR WORK: The summer project will take place partly in Fossoli concentration camp, which was used to gather all Jewish and political prisoners in Italy before sending them to Auschwitz, mostly. Volunteers will be involved in some maintenance work in the concentration camp, which will be completed with a study part focused on the concentration camp, and the way the memory of this places and events are kept “alive” by local volunteers and by the foundation which manages the place. Particular focus will be given to the “train of Memory” to Auschwitz organized yearly with schools in Janu- ary. The second part of the project will take place in on the hills of Palagano, where the Resistance movement took place in the period between 1943-1945. Volunteers will clean some commemorative gravestones which remembers the events of civil resistance against fascist /nazi troops in the area. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to meet survivors and witnesses of that events. ACCOMODATION: Volunteers will be lodged in a school and in one of the building of the camp. LANGUAGE: ENGLISH / and : Italien LOCATION: To be organized TERMINAL: Reggio Emilia SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Specific interest in the subject to be shown by the motivation in the application and by means of a specific motivation letter. REMARKS: A contribution to travel costs of volunteers is foreseen for this camp. Reimbursement of 50% will be provided. SPECIAL FEE 10.00 EUR ______InformaGiovani 6- IG 6.2 NATURAL RESERVE ISOLA DELLE FEMMINE Palermo 04/07-16/07/11 ENVI , 18 ans. 7 VOLS SPECIAL FEE 10.00 EUR WORK: The small island is since 9 years a natural reserve. Volunteers will help in cleaning it, make stone paths, take a census of and label the rabbit burrows. Work not heavy but make it difficult by the sicilian sun. Temperature on the island can be very warm. ACCOMODATION: In a small house in the city centre. One room for all the volunteers with bunk beds. Volunteers will cook their food LANGUAGE: ENGLISH / and : Italien LOCATION: Isola is very close to the city of Palermo where volunteers can go for trips and leisure time. TERMINAL: Palermo SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Sleeping bag required. Working shoes suggested (the island is very rocky). Solar cream and a light cap are suggested. REMARKS: Volunteers must be able to swimm. SPECIAL FEE 10.00 EUR

7- IG 2.1 FESTA DEI POPOLI Ancona 08/07-18/07/11 MANU ,FEST ,CULT , 17 ans. 7 VOLS SPECIAL FEE 10.00 EUR WORK: The summer project support the whole organization of the festival, which will take place from the 14th -16th July: preparation of the public spaces, cooking, cleaning and of course living and enjoy- ing the festival in the marvelous frame of Forte Altavilla in Ancona city. Study part will be the themes of each day of the festival, meeting in advance or after, the protagonists of the debates. ACCOMODATION: Accommodation in a school. Food to be prepared by volunteers LANGUAGE: ENGLISH / and : Italien LOCATION: The festival itself will provide a lot of leisure time. Otherwise, possible trips in the area are to be organized TERMINAL: Ancona SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: None SPECIAL FEE 10.00 EUR

8- IG 4.1 APRITI CUORE Palermo 17/07-28/07/11 SOCI ,KIDS ,DISA , 21 ans. 6 VOLS SPECIAL FEE 10.00 EUR WORK: Volunteers will help in all aspect related to the running of the community, by helping in leisure time activities, helping in food preparation, accompaning the youngsters to the seaside, etc. ACCOMODATION: In the community LANGUAGE: ENGLISH / and : Italien LOCATION: The centre is in the very heart of Palermo so volunteers will be able to join cultural and social life there. TERMINAL: Palermo SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: A minimum knowledge of Italian is welcome, even if not compulsory. A motivation letter is required: work is very rewarding but it may create initial emotional impact. REMARKS: A motivation letter is required SPECIAL FEE 10.00 EUR

10- IG 11.3 ANFIMAFIA LIBERAMENTE Palermo 08/08-20/08/11 ENVI ,SOCI ,MANU , 17 ans. 8 VOLS SPECIAL FEE 10.00 EUR WORK: LiberaMente is a social cooperative company managing a field that was owned by a mafia boss and is now confiscated and used or organic farming. Volunteers will support the work on field, picking-up lemons and cleaning from dry erbs. ACCOMODATION: basic, in tents. Runnig water is available and WCs with showers will be available in a close-by house. LANGUAGE: ENGLISH / and : Italien LOCATION: loca TERMINAL: Palermo SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: none SPECIAL FEE 10.00 EUR

11- IG 1.3 CASA DI MATTONI Fermo 13/08-23/08/11 MANU ,CULT , 18 ans. 6 VOLS SPECIAL FEE 10.00 EUR WORK: Summer months for the youngsters hosted in the communities is the only moment during which they are on holidays from school or work and therefore is a perfect moment for them to work together on team building and teamwork. That’s why the international voluntary project is a perfect activity to make also to learn how to cooperate and share life with other people coming from other places of Europe and not only. Volunteers will join the activities organized in the community and share life with this youngsters: volunteer will take care of some maintenance work in the house, such as painting rooms and decorate them, and will collaborate together in the daily tasks of the house: cooking (pizza, pasta, and other meals ) and cleaning together. There will be also typical summer activities, such as going to the seaside, visiting any relevant city e.g Porto San Giorgio, or local handcrafts workshop. The study part will consinst on migrations and the reciprocal visions of Europe. 13- IG 11.4 EDUCATING TO FREEDOM. WALDORF SCHOOL Palermo 30/08-10/09/11 MANU , 17 ans. 5 VOLS SPECIAL FEE 10.00 EUR WORK: Volunteers will support the teachers and the parents of the pupils in the manual work needed before the start of the school year: painting the classrooms, the desks and the chairs, clean the gar- den, arrange the play area for kids, repair desks, etc. ACCOMODATION: In the school. Lunch together with teachers and diners self prepared by the volunteers LANGUAGE: ENGLISH / and : Italien LOCATION: The school is in the centre of Palermo, so volunteers will be able to join social and cultural life of the city TERMINAL: Palermo SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: None SPECIAL FEE 10.00 EUR
