Practice Questions: print and tape / place behind corresponding picture. I inserted my pictures and problems in plastic page protectors. The first one is a teacher – student practice together problem.

For the challenge questions you may guide the students with the inquiry question, how many ways can a set be divided into? These ladies are working on finishing aircraft tips. Let’s say that each lady can finish 24 tips in one day. If at the end of the day we count 5280 tips, then how many ladies worked that day?

Let’s understand the problem. I know that the word “each” means 1. 1-What facts do I know from the problem? I know that the word each means 1. I know that 1 lady makes 24 tips. And , I know that there is a total of 5280 tips. 2- What does the question want me to find out? I need to find out “The number of ladies” who worked that day.

Setting up the problem. Let’s do it together. The important words in this problem were …? Lady and tips. I set up the important words in the algorithm ( formula). I remember to align like groups ( red with red and blue with blue.) I draw my big X and multiply the numbers that are joined by a line. I divide by the number whose line connects to the question mark ( 24). 1 lady 24 tips number of ladies ? 5280 tips Solving the problem: 1 x 5280 = 5280 / 24 = 220 ladies 24 Grow it yourself : Plan a farm garden now.

* Solve If Each carrot plant grows 3 carrots. How many plants do we need to plant in order row 270 carrots?

** Challenge: Write a word problem about the tomato plant, or the potato plant. Can you write one about the cabbage heads or garlic plants? Gardens at labor homes add to incomes. Tulare migrant camp. Visalia, California

** Challenge : Write a division problem about the pictures. Think of leaves per head, or space per row… or meals per cabbage head… Cabins imitating the Indian teepee for tourists along highway south of Bardstown, Kentucky.

* Solve

A Tee pee hotel room can sleep up to 6 people at one time. How many teepees are needed for a group of 252 people?

** Challenge

Write a division word problem about the cost of staying in a teepee hotel. "Grandma is never absent now that they let her do all her own baking at the plant" / A. Cramer for OWI.

* Solve

Each of the golden boxes has cookie trays in it.

** Challenge What toehr division problems can you think of about the cowboys? Chicago, Illinois. Model airplanes decorate the ceiling of the train concourses at Union Station

It took 5,000 model airplanes to decorate the entrance of the train station at the concourse level. If the airplanes were hung in rows of 8. How many rows did it take to hang all 5000.
