Entrepreneurship Minor

Entrepreneurship Minor

Entrepreneurship, the transformation of ideas to reality, is an essential skill for today’s student. As a complement to any program of study, the Entrepreneurship minor provides students with skills in all aspects of global entrepreneurship and new venture management. The vibrant nature of entrepreneurship is reflected in the minor through skill building, connection to leaders and entrepreneurs, and opportunities to understand and build a business. There are no prerequisites in the Entrepreneurship minor and students from across campus, in any major, may complete the program. Innovative and transformational ideas are usually introduced to society through the work of entrepreneurs who start or operate businesses of all sizes and within all industries. Typically entrepreneurs collaborate or combine efforts with people with divergent skills and expertise and work toward developing new business ideas, technologies, and processes. Whether an idea is based on bringing social value to the world or providing a needed product or service, the Entrepreneurship Minor will provide students from all disciplines the opportunity to build skills in developing, launching and operating new ventures. People who enjoy creating something useful and unique, working hard to overcome obstacles and working in collaboration with others and alone should consider entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurs are often business owners and are willing to take calculated risks and assume a great deal of responsibility to create something new. Entrepreneurial talent is useful for new venture creators and business owners but characteristics indicative of entrepreneurs are useful in many organizational settings. The Entrepreneurship minor is comprised of 20 quarter units designed to give students the skills and confidence needed to explore new venture opportunities and develop business ideas into implementable plans of action.
