National Council on Youth Sports ( NCYS) Names Cindi Hart Coach of the Year!

______IndySpeed Updates October 2006 ______IT’S OFFICIAL! INDYSPEED IS NOW 501c 3 We just got word from the IRS, that they have accepted all of our paperwork, and we are now a 501c3 organization! Any donations you wish to make to IndySpeed are now Tax deductible! ------National Council on Youth Sports ( NCYS) names Cindi Hart Coach of the year! The NCYS has just named Cindi Youth Volunteer Coach of the year! The award will be given at the Special Olympics fall event, at Hamilton Southeastern HS, on Saturday October 21st. We will be there running a booth on “learn to bike ride”. As part of the presentation, IndySpeed will receive a check from Hersheys. We need IndySpeed members to attend and accept the check! ------Shani Davis in Town This Weekend Friday October 6th, as part of Circle City Classic, World Champion, and Olympic Gold Medalist Shani Davis will be in town to receive the 2005 Chase Major Taylor Award. He will also be visiting some local schools, including Madison’s elementary school in Pike Twp. We are hoping he will skate with us Saturday morning, but do not yet have details. The award will be given at a luncheon of Friday: Noon-1:30 p.m. Price: $30 at the Convention Center, Sagamore Ballroom, 100 S. Capitol, Contact: (317) 237-5222 ------Skate Rental Due If you are renting skates on a monthly basis. Make checks payable to “IndySpeed” Skate rental is $25 per month or $75 for the “off season”, which is April 1 – October 1st. Please remember that skates are not kept at PanAm plaza. October 28th Chicago Silver Skates Short Track Race ------Ellenberger Ice starts Monday October 16th. New, Improved ice times Skating at Ellenberger ice rink will start on Monday October 16th, and will continue through March. No ice on Christmas day, New Years day, or Thanksgiving eve. We will be painting Ellenberger on Thursday, October 5th. Individual membership is $50 and Family membership is $100. Annual membership forms are located at http://www.IndySpeed.org. Please submit your signed forms with your dues. Membership cards will be issued following receipt of payment. These cards will prove that you are a registered member of the team, and will help you avoid double entry fees at race registration as well as receive additional benefits from sponsors (like 20% discounts at Bike Wave). With the first speedskating race of the year only 4 weeks away, it is time to take our training up a level. Summer exercises such as cycling and inline skating should have your fitness base in place. Everyone should have their goals in place for the upcoming season and have plans in place to make those goals happen. ------Training Plans If you need help with goal setting, creating a training schedule, or help understating your training plans, contact Ken and Cindi to set up an appointment to review your individual training plan. ------Dryland Training Currently this is on Tuesday nights at the Hart house, 7pm. We have talked with Lafayette Mall, and should be moving there once all the details are worked out. ------Chicago Silver Skates October 28th The first short track race of the year for us will be the 89th Chicago Silver Skates, held in Glen Ellyn, IL. Click Here for Entry forms. http://indyspeed.org/2006/2006ChicagoSilverSkates.doc This is a 1-day event, with the first race being late-morning, so we will be able to drive up early Saturday. This is about a 3 hour-30 minute drive. ------Skinsuit Order Form Racing skinsuits take about 2-3 weeks to get, and are a custom fit from http://www.youngoriginals.com/. If you are going to do the Silver Skates, you should order a skinsuit ASAP. Cost is around $95. ------Jackets Available Team jackets can be ordered through "Embroid-me" Located on 4040 E.82nd street in the ClearWater crossing. Phone 577-7600. They also carry a full line of shirts, caps, etc, that they will embroider. They will also do “carry-in” embroidery, too, if you have a need for it. ------Volunteers, Volunteers, Volunteers Being an all-volunteer organization means that we are always looking for help. Currently we are looking for help in the following areas:

Grants and Sponsorship: We are always searching for grants and sponsorship. Now that we are 501c3, we need to get our sponsorship into place. We have 3 active leads. Clothing: Once we get sponsorship determined, we will need to order clothing, we need designs. Coaching! : Looking for volunteer coaches for in-line, cycling, and beginning speed skating. If you have an interest in coaching, contact Ken. Events: We are planning on promoting several inline races. Plus we are discussing putting on a Shorttrack event at PanAm Plaza, plus put on a coaches clinic, too. To do these events we will need a promoter, as well as judges, timers and volunteers. ------Result and News Abby Nicks and Ken Hart both finish 2nd overall in the Traders Point Time Trial Series.

At the NorthShore Inline Marathon, Linda, Nadine, And Dwight won their age divisions. Bob finished 2nd in the Masters Elite race. Dennis skated too, finishing his first inline marathon!

Nadine and the Marian College Cycling Team won the Collegiate National Championships, held at Major Taylor Velodrome, September 20-23rd.

Bob wins his division in the 87-mile Athens-to-Atlanta road race. Placing 39th overall, he did the 87 miles in 6 hours and 3 minutes! AWESOME! Mike Spangle, and Lin Xiu from Indy also finished in 6:23:10 and 6:23:19. ------That’s all for now. Ken http://www.IndySpeed.org 2 October, 2006
