Content/Presentation/Demonstration Outline Instruct students that pulleys require replacement under several conditions including, a bent or wobbly pulley, replacement of a power steering pump or cracked or damaged pulley grooves. Also explain to students that a pulley which is loose on the shaft must also be replaced. Caution students to never hammer on the pump shaft during pulley removal or replacement as this action could damage the internal components of the pump assembly. Point out to the students if the pulley is pressed onto the pump shaft that a special puller must be used for removing the pulley and a special installation tool is required to press the pulley back into place. Tell students they should never attempt to hammer the pulley on or off. Instruct the student that if the power steering pump pulley is retained with a nut, mounting the pump in a vise is essential. Be certain to caution the student to tighten the vise on one of the pump mounting bolts, or damage could occur to the pump. Instruct students to use a special holding tool to keep the pulley from turning and loosen the hex nut with a box wrench. Inform students to observe the woodruff keys and pump shaft for damage or scoring, if any faulty components are identified they must be replaced. Explain to students how to properly reinstall the pulley back onto the pump shaft. Instruct students that proper location of the pulley is critical to belt alignment. The pulley must be relocated back onto the shaft in the exact location as the original. Instruct students that this is very important on pulleys which require pressing onto the shaft. Instruct students that pulley alignment can be checked using a straightedge and comparing the replacement pulley to the other remaining pulleys.

Applications/Practice 1 Refer To Content Section

Evaluation and feedback Prior to Testing or Lab Work Objective 1. / Formative assessment / Instructor will observe students as they practice tasks to assure correct procedure and safety practices are being followed. A checklist should be utilized to chart student 1 progress on the task. Questioning techniques will be utilized as necessary to demonstrate student comprehension / Adaptations and/or accommodations for special needs students will be added if required

STUDENT ASSESSMENT: (Assess student progress with performance criteria.) Objective 1 / Summative assessment / written test questions on stated objective / adaptation and /or 2 accommodations for special needs students will be added if required.

IMPACT--Reflection/Analysis of Teaching and Learning: (How did students’ progress in relation to the state objectives? Was the instruction successful? Analyze samples of student work particularly that which is unsatisfactory, for the purpose of planning further instruction.)
