7 St TheFiachra’s annual cemetery Camogie mass will Under be held at 14St Fiacre's Team cemetery Ullard on Friday July 17th @Féile 8pm. 2015 Ulster June 19th, 20th and 21st

The Feile weekend has come and gone and what a weekend it was for each and every player, mentor and parent involved. Here is a brief account of what we got up to over the weekend in Ulster playing in the Division One Feile Competition.

Our weekend began leaving from the bank at 7.15am on Friday 19th with 20 excited Under 14 players, 4 anxious mentors and 24 supporting parents and brothers & sisters of the players, all heading to Dunloy, Co. Antrim, our host club for the weekend. We also had 6 car loads following behind the team bus, so we were not short of support. Our first stop was the Apple Green Service Station at Lusk, Co. Dublin where we met other Feile bound buses from Limerick, Cork, Clare, Waterford and our fellow Kilkenny representatives, the boys from Kilmacow, all stopped for the much needed Full Irish Breakfast before we travelled onto our host clubs in the North.

We arrived in Dunloy at 1.30am and travelled onto Loughgiel club grounds to play our first match against Kilruane McDonaghs from Tipperary. We won a very tough and hard fought match and then in our second game we were beaten by a very strong Loughgiel (Co. Antrim) team later at 6pm, who were the eventual Division One Winners for the second year in a row. Disappointed with our defeat, but still in good form we returned to Dunloy where the girls met and went to the homes of their host families for the night. Early the next morning we beat Dunloy in our third match qualifying for the Cup Quarter Final Competition which we played in Ballycastle against the St. Vincent’s Team from Co. Dublin. The girls played their hearts out, blocking, harassing and running for each and every ball but despite giving everything we were defeated by the narrowest of margins, one point. We were all bitterly disappointed and many tears were shed but all on the side-lines were extremely proud of the gallant effort made by every single girl on the panel.

That night we returned to Dunloy to watch a senior hurling match between Loughgiel and Dunloy and to attend a barbeque organised by the host club for all the participating Feile teams in the area. It was a great night and everyone was able to put behind them the disappointment of our defeat and enjoyed making new friends and chatting about playing Camogie/Hurling and all that is good about these events. Over the weekend, wherever we went we were fed soup, sandwiches, scones, fruit, tea and coffee in abundance by each club we visited and it is fair to say that Ulster were the most generous and accommodating of hosts.

We left the North the next morning at 11am, travelling to the Potin Stil for dinner and to watch the Kilkenny/Wexford match. We were all tired but all thankful for the opportunity to have played and experience all that is involved in “The Feile Weekend”. It gave every girl lots of wonderful memories that they will remember for the rest of their lives. St Fiachras may not have been crowned Feile Champions but each girl played to their full potential representing their club and county to the best of their ability.

We would again like to thank our sponsors and everyone for supporting all our fundraisers which allowed us to travel to Ulster and participate in the Feile Competition. Thanks also to the parents, family members and hurley & water carriers who travelled to the North with the team, we greatly appreciate all your help and support. It was an experience of a lifetime for every one of the 20 players involved.

8 We wish all the camogie teams continued success and invite any young girls in the parish to join the Camogie club to learn the skills of the game, keep fit and healthy, meet new people and make friends for life.

HOW PARENTS CAN REGISTER FOR UNDER 6’s FREE GP CARE – ANN PHELAN, TD

87% of doctors in Carlow and Kilkenny have now signed up to provide free GP care to under 6s.

“I am delighted to see there has been a further uptake among doctors of the free GP care scheme locally.

“I would continue to urge parents to sign their children up for the free scheme on www.gpvisitcard.ie, which became operational last Monday when the HSE opened its public registration process. The service itself will begin on July 1st.

It’s important to note that you do not go to your local GP to register for this service; you MUST do this online first via the website above.

Young children are prone to illnesses, especially when they start attending a crèche or school. This service is a major step forward in improving access to health care and to removing financial barriers from parents.

The scheme will also include a free cycle of care for children with asthma, a free cycle of care for people with diabetes and an extension of free GP care for anyone over the age of 70.

If you require any further information on this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me or my office on 056 7756000/ 086 3294420.

Parish News Invalids/Housebound will be attended as follows: Tuesday 30th June. Graig Country. Wednesday 1st July. Graig Town. Thursday 2nd July. Tinnahinch and Ullard. Friday 3rd July. Skeough.
