SOCIAL MEDIA & BLOGGING POLICY

Participation in online social media sites and blogging are popular means of communicating and sharing ideas. [Company] encourages you to publish your thoughts online and engage in open discussion with members of the online community. Using Social Media. While you’re free to participate online, you are responsible for your online pages and content, which may affect your employment. For example, if you blog about the work you do at [Company], you may be perceived as representing the organization. Simply the fact that you work for [Company] means that your comments will be associated with our personnel and business. Accordingly, we require employees to observe the following rules:  Obey all laws and company policies. If you are unsure about whether a message would violate a law or policy, speak to your supervisor before posting it.  Do not disclose the following confidential and proprietary information belonging to [Company] or our customers: [specify the information considered confidential, or refer to a separate confidential information policy]. If you are unsure about whether any particular item of information is confidential, you can ask your supervisor.  Do not use social media to post or share content regarding [Company], its employees, or its customers that could be viewed as malicious, obscene, threatening, or intimidating, or that could contribute to a discriminatory, harassing, or hostile work environment . If you allow others to post comments, you should carefully monitor the comments and remove postings that violate this rule.  Respect the rights and privacy of your co-workers.  If you blog about your work or discuss [Company] online, please include a disclaimer, such as: “Although I'm employed by [Company], the opinions and postings on this site are my own and those of the individuals who post to this site. They do not represent the opinions, positions, strategies, or views of [Company] or its other employees.”  Posting online and blogging are not your job, and you should not appear to act as an official spokesperson. You also may not use company time, company computers, or other company resources to post online or blog. Violation of any of these rules is grounds for discipline, up to and including termination. Online Etiquette. In addition, we ask you to follow these principles of online etiquette:  Keep the information on your site accurate and up to date.  Treat others with respect, whether or not you agree with them.

However, if your employment ends, then we expect you to update your online profiles to indicate that you no longer work for [Company].
