NCSHRM State Council Second Quarter Meeting May 11, 2017 Minutes

Welcome and Introductions

Director’s Report  Jeff is working with our Diversity Team on the Southeast Region SHRM Diversity Initiative.  State Council will host a New Orleans networking event for those from NC attending the SHRM conference.  The 4th in person State Council meeting date and location is TBA and will combine a business meeting with socializing.  Larry Valenti is planning a leadership meeting for the 2018 State Council. Sponsor is Engage2Excel.

Secretary / Treasurer Report  Michelle is filling in for Rick as Secretary and is doing an awesome job.  Michelle then presented the Treasurer’s report.

SHRM Update Dorothy Knapp presented a SHRM Update.

Director-Elect Report  The new website is up and running and will handle all meeting registrations, SHRM postings, etc.  LCFHRA microsite is also up and running  He is making a call for chapters who need this service through YM (YourMembership)  Larry will be eblasting a survey to NCSHRM members regarding their interest in State Council leadership roles  NC HR Strategies is new entity created to manage state conference and execute business decisions for State Council  Larry is conducting a by-law review, rewriting and reorganizing o Proposing extending term limits to certain roles, not officer roles o Clearly define Executive Committee o Clarify voting / nonvoting members o Decide on President vs. Director nomenclature o Stagger turnover and terms

Membership  Planning events by partnering with chapters instead of separately

College Relations  Three colleges were in the CASE Competition: Elon, ECU and Meredith  SHRM leaders are pushing us to host CASE competition of our own

NCSHRM Strategic Partners  Bankers Association, Equality NC, Personnel Association, NC Chamber  Jeff asked all to let him know of any others

Young Professionals  There will be a breakout social for YP at State Conference

Community Relations  Feed NC kicks off May and June; fliers are available

Governmental Affairs  Advocacy Day had 65 registered – great turnout and delivered 400 box lunches!  Dwayne Hall extremely helpful with making everyone comfortable going forward, A-Team members  Working on initiative to enable NC to be a veteran preference

SHRM Foundation  Start planning chapter donations for silent auction at State Conference  Chapters must participate to qualify for Distinguished Chapter recognition

Awards  Goal is to make people feel like a million bucks; will announce finalists before State Conference  Nominations due June 15  Looking for way to distinguish finalists at conference

State Conference  2017 – four keynotes set, two Masters Series speakers, over 400 registered; early bird deadline 5/31  2018 - no news yet

Wellness  Will try survey again hoping for better participation
