FLSA STATUS: Exempt FUNDING SOURCE: Foundation School Program COMPENSATION: Southwest Preparatory Board Approved Pay Schedule

REPORTS TO: Campus Principal

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors College Degree, Masters preferred. Texas certification in subject to be taught.

BASIC FUNCTION: Classroom teachers provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. They enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's syllabi.

Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles in accordance with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills as well as with best practices of teaching.

Present subject according to guidelines established by TEA, board policies, and administrative regulations.

Work cooperatively with administrators, superintendents and other staff as needed to meet curriculum objectives.

Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in the Individual Employment Plan. Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.

Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.

Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required,

Participate in staff development activities to improve job related skills.

Perform other duties as assigned. PARTNERSHIPS & COMMUNICATION: Initiate and maintain consistent communication and develop constructive partnerships with families communicating about student progress and ways the families can support the student while at home.

Initiate and maintain consistent communication and develop constructive partnerships with community members and agencies, building on their strengths and recognizing them as co-educators.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Maintain emotional control under stress; Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing is required; Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks and other classroom equipment; Must be able to frequently walk up and down stairs; At times, must be able to life 20 pounds repeatedly.
