LESSON 2

Beginning students

 Topic: Numbers / colors  Objective: count to at least 35, name colors  Materials: nametags, index cards with numbers, construction paper in different colors, number memory game, Hexe Lied CD

Wir beginnen. 1,2,3…

A. Hallo Lied und Namensschilder (5 Min)

 Hallo-Lied singen. Sing first time alone then sing together twice. Hallo, Hallo, schön, daß du da bist. Hallo, Hallo, schön, dich zu sehen.

B. Regeln wiederholen (3 Min)

 Show the poster with the rules again and review each one by saying it and doing hand/body signals to express the meaning of each rule. Was machen wir in der Deutschklasse? Wir passen auf. (zuhören, zuschauen, ruhig sein) Wir respektieren einander. Wir sprechen Deutsch.

C. Namenskette (2 min)  First review Ich heiße and Wie heißt du? By asking various students their names. Then play Namenskette.

D. Colors (10 min)

 Hold up sheets of construction paper. blau, weiß, rot, schwarz, grün, braun, orange, lila, gelb, rosa, grau. Pronounce each word and have the students repeat after you.  Play the game Fass was an, was _____ ist. You call out a color and the students have to find something of that color throughout the room and touch it. Make sure to demonstrate how to play the game with each other first and show them that running fast and crazy is not acceptable.

E. Numbers (13 min)

 Introduce the numbers 1-10 by showing number cards and have the students repeat it after you. Choose numbers randomly and have students say the number. Remember: repeat, repeat, repeat  Sing the Hexe Lied about numbers:

eins, zwei Polizei drei, vier kaltes Bier fünf, sechs alte Hex’ sieben, acht gute Nacht neun, zehn auf Wiedersehn

 Play Nummerspiel. A child reaches in to a bag and draws out a number. Students says the number and then everyone then jumps that number of times, counting with each jump. OR  Play the memory game with numbers. Numbers are hanging at different lengths. Call out a number and have a student come to the front and find it. Make sure the other students pay attention so they can remember where the numbers are. Call out another number and have another student try to find the number.

F. Kettenspiel with age (5 min)

 Introduce Wie alt bist du? Tell how old you are? And then ask students. Once they seem to have it, play the Kettenspiel with Wie alt bist du?

H. Aufräumen und Je Öfter Lied Singen (2 Min)  Collect all materials, name tags and sing the good-bye song. Je öfter wir uns sehen, uns sehen, uns sehen, Je öfter wir uns sehen, desto fröhlicher sind wir. Meine Freunde sind deine Freunde, Und deine Freunde sind meine Freunde. Je öfter wir uns sehen, desto fröhlicher sind wir.
