Brodies Scottish Schools Swimming Championships 2015.
Last weekend an enthusiastic bunch of 11 North Ayrshire ASC swimmers and parents headed North for the eagerly awaited Scottish Schools Championships 2015. The 11 swimmers had previously competed at the Citadel in Ayr in October with the top 3 from Ayrshire in each event getting selected to take part in the finals. Excitement was high as youngsters from all over Scotland competed for a National title.
First in the pool was John Wright, Largs Academy. He secured a silver medal in the 400 free and then a fantastic swim landed him gold in the 200 free. Next in was Abby Kane, Brisbane Primary, Largs. Abby as a Primary pupil had only 1 swim but made a great effort in her 50 backstroke. Rebecca Weir, Largs Academy performed well in her favourite events the 200 and 100 breaststroke. Connor Tarran, Largs Academy and Rory Dickson, Garnock Academy gained 3rd and 4th place respectively in a magnificent 200IM race. Connor went on to swim well in the 200 breast. Rory with the last swim of the night set a new PB in the 100 breast.
Emma Scully, Largs Academy was in great form securing 2 silver medals in the 100 breast stroke and 200 backstroke. Abbie Freeman, Kilwinning Academy put in a fine 100 backstroke and a stronger 200 backstroke with a new PB for that. Evan Clark, Auchenharvie Academy was “flying” setting new PB’s in the 100 fly and 200 free. Adam Kirkwood, Kilwinning Academy was on great form with a fantastic 200 backstroke. Later that day he had an amazing finish on the 100 backstroke and picked up the silver medal for this event.
Fraser Kelly, Saint Mary’s, Largs with only one swim was making the most of it. He qualified from the heats for the final of the 50 fly. Fraser then pulled out all the stops and picked up joint bronze for his magnificent effort. James Marshall, Largs Academy was also in good form swimming in the 200 free and 100 free.
This great event was a fantastic experience for North Ayrshire’s young swimmers with Commonwealth Games medallists Ross Murdoch and Erraid Davies handing out the medals.
