SAMPLE OUTLINE OF A CONSTITUTION

ARTICLE III. Membership

Section 1: Membership shall be limited to those students in grades ______?

Section 2: Membership shall include only those students specified in Section 1 who hold a G.P.A. of ______for the school semester immediately before enrollment in the club.

Section 3: Membership shall be equally apportioned from the grades indicated in Section 1.

(The sections for Article III will vary according to the particular circumstances for each club.)

ARTICLE IV. Officers

Section 1: Officers’ positions for this organization shall include: (note: check the page that gives descriptions of each officer’s job)

(They shall serve for one year or until their successor are elected and qualify.) Section 2: Each officer shall be a member in good academic standing (qualified in all terms).

Section 3: The officers shall serve on the “Executive Board” and perform such duties as directed by the President and the Advisor and not inconsistent with the rules found therein this Constitution or other rules adopted by the chapter.

ARTICLE V. Election of Officers

Section 1: Elections of new officers shall be conducted at a meeting during the month of May.

Section 2: Elections shall be held by secret ballot.

Section 3: A simple majority vote will constitute an election to office.

ARTICLE VI. Meetings

Section 1: The club shall hold weekly, monthly, or bi-monthly meetings at such time and place as shall be determined by the club with approval of the club advisor.

Section 2: Officers may miss only 3 meetings (general or executive).

Section 3: Officers must attend events that they were in charge of organizing and at least two officers must be present at each event.

ARTICLE VII. Finances

Section 1: At the beginning of each school year, the treasurer shall give a report to the new officer team each year on the finances remaining from the previous year and expenditures/costs incurred by last year’s team to help set up a budget for the new year. New clubs won’t have any financial history.

Section 2: The treasurer shall keep track of all club finances, including donations to and from other organizations. All expenditures are to be carefully noted in the secretary’s minutes and in the club’s budget to be created by the president, the treasurer, and the advisor.

ARTICLE VIII. Amendments

Section 1: Amendments to this Constitution shall be adopted by two-thirds vote of the members present at a regular membership meeting held as the next immediate meeting after the one in which the proposed amendment was published either by being read or by its distribution in writing. Any changes/modifications must be dated with the date the modifications were approved by the club. ARTICLE IX. Code of Conduct

All Folsom High School rules, dress code policy, and other disciplinary rules apply to all club officers and members during meetings, activities, and community service events. Please see FHS Student Handbook for additional details. Remember that you are representing Folsom High School at all times. If at any time a member fails to follow the Code of Conduct he/she will receive a warning and may be impeached and removed by 2/3 majority vote from this organization.
