SIT Meeting May 22, 2014 Ridge Elementary School

Members attending: one administrator, four Ridge staff members, and two parents.

Introduction:

Mrs. Kerner shared the purpose of today’s meeting, and reviewed the agenda items. There will be a Celebration Assembly on Friday, May 23, 2014 to highlight and recognize our students’ participation in the many events that have occurred this school year outside of our school day: Math Challenge, Essay contests, FLOW, FLES, Environmental Club, Science Fair, Destination Imagination, March of Dimes, Relay for Life, Jump Rope for Heart, Safety Patrol, Music and Art. Mrs. Kerner discussed how the SMCPS budget affects RES.

Committee Reports:  Language Arts:  Collecting end of the year data at this time.  Mathematics:  Collecting end of the year data at this time.  Safety and Security  The school has been outfitted with electronic lock mechanisms. It has been reported that the locking mechanism at the front door does not work.  Attendance:  Overall attendance rate to date: 95.17%, a decrease from January which was 95.75%, decrease from first quarter which was 96.4%. Staff continues to request that absence be reported.  PTA  New board of directors has been voted in: President: Ms. Knight, Vice President: Mrs. Jensen, Secretary: Mrs. Fitzgerald, Treasurer: Mrs. Carroll. The board is looking ahead to next year for planning purposes.  Teacher Appreciation Week was spectacular!  A survey to families went home requesting feedback on events supported by the PTA. A survey will be provided to the staff requesting additional feedback.  The Volunteer Luncheon is scheduled for Friday, May 23, 2014 and is being sponsored by Mission Barbeque.  The PTA is looking to support the school in providing school supplies for next year. Work Session:  The 2013-14 Educator Effectiveness Academy School Improvement Planner was shared with team members for reference.  The Wellness section of the School Improvement Plan was provided and updated with recommendations from the school nurse, counselor, and PE teacher.  The Stakeholder Involvement section was shared and revised.  Team members were asked to review all three components of the plan and provide feedback as we plan for next school year.

This is the last SIT meeting for this school year. Thank you to all those participating in meetings throughout the school year. We look forward to a productive school year next year.
