Indian insurance industry is passing through a very critical time. First it was privatization & opening up and now detarrifing. This has resulted in fierce competition leading to cutting on premiums.

The Insurers are becoming very critical about their profitability as they are operating on lowest margins which sometimes may be even negative due to the competition. Policy terms & conditions are also going to be detarrifed.

On the otherhand, the insured is becoming more aware & knowledgeable about his rights. Competition also adds its bit to customer education. More & more grievance redressal systems are coming up for consumer protection which makes it critical from legal point also.

The Surveyor is to face challenges from all the sides. Continuously changing technology & Engineering, business methods & procedures and lifestyles & values of people also need to be kept track with. He is also to keep high his professional ethics of Integrity, Impartiality & Equity. Under the circumstances, best course available to him is to equip himself with latest knowledge & skills of his profession.

Keeping in mind the above, there is a direction from the Central Council of the Institute to provide avenues to the members where they can exchange their knowledge & skills and update themselves with the latest in the industry. Hence this is a small endeavour from Zonal Council (North) in the shape of a ‘three days residential seminar’.
