Office of the Command Sergeant Major
SFC NAME 1st INF HHC BSTB Fort Riley, KS 66442
Dear SFC XXXX:
On behalf of the officers, Soldiers, and civilians of the 308th Military Intelligence Battalion, I want to welcome you to this challenging and rewarding assignment.
The Battalion conducts counterintelligence (CI) operations in support of U.S. Army active and reserve forces at installations and activities within the continental US; provides CI advice and assistance to joint and national level agencies; and provides CI support to the international treaty verification process. The Battalion's mission is to neutralize foreign intelligence service collection activities directed against U.S. Army forces, secrets and technologies. The Battalion has fifty six operational locations, making it the most geographically dispersed CI Battalion in the Army.
The Battalion’s work is often sensitive and classified. As such, it is important that your security clearance is up to date prior to leaving your current unit. Your unit S2 should be able to provide assistance in this area by submitting a new security clearance request or updating your old one. Make arrangements with your S2 well before you leave as security clearances can sometimes take 8 to 16 months to finalize.
To assist you with arrangements for your arrival and inprocessing, I have appointed SFC Donnell Clay as your sponsor. You will be hearing from him in the near future.
Meanwhile, if you have any questions regarding your assignment to the 308th Military Intelligence Battalion, please feel free to contact the Battalion Adjutant at DSN 622-2998 or commercial (301) 677-2998.
Again, welcome to the Battalion!
Sincerely,
//Original Signed// CARL A. MYERS CSM, U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major
