2013 Teacher Accreditation Grants

Rewards for Great Teachers Accreditation grants, funded through the Rewards for Great Teachers National Partnership, are available to schools to support teachers applying for at Highly Accomplished/Professional Accomplished or Lead Teacher/Professional Leadership levels. It is expected that this grant will culminate in the accreditation of the nominated teacher or teachers at one of the higher levels. It is intended to assist in building teacher capacity in schools to support future teachers applying for one of the higher levels of accreditation.

Teacher Accreditation grants proposals should include specific detail as to how the school will support teachers to achieve accreditation at the higher levels.

Eligibility

Schools need to be NSW independent schools with teachers who are planning to make an application of have already applied to commence the accreditation process for one of the higher levels and are able to complete the process within two years. i.e. by the end of 2015.

Rewards for Great Teachers Teacher Accreditation Grant applications should be submitted by Monday, 12 November 2012.

Funding

A maximum of $4,000 plus the application fee is available for each teacher undertaking accreditation at the higher levels of Highly Accomplished/Professional Accomplishment or Lead Teacher/Professional Leadership levels.

Some funds must be used to:  provide release time for the teacher undergoing the accreditation process to work in a professional capacity with teachers in their own school or other schools and at the same time address descriptors/standards at the targeted level. Materials gathered during the process of providing this support can form part of the evidence for accreditation. provide teacher release time to assist the applicant to address the Standards/Elements needing development, as indicated by the NSW Institute Preliminary Assessment Tool or AISNSW PEET feedback and work towards meeting the Standards/Elements and collecting evidence of their actions. Funds may also be used for any of the following:  professional development regarding the accreditation process or Professional Teaching Standards that need addressing as indicated by the NSW Institute Preliminary Assessment Tool or the AISNSW PEET and any required teacher release to attend that PD  other ideas from schools will be considered

The Rewards for Great Teachers National Partnership is an initiative of the Australian Government Application Process

The school should apply separately for each Rewards for Great Teachers Teacher Accreditation Grant, submitting the following:

 The NSW Institute of Teachers’ assessment of the teacher’s completed Preliminary Assessment, preferably showing their assessment as Moderate Likelihood of Success or better. Copies of the Preliminary Assessment are available on the NSW Institute of Teachers’ website. Teachers may also apply using the feedback from IAISNSW’s PEET.

Please note that receiving the results of both the Preliminary Assessment and the PEET can take some weeks and teachers should complete their chosen assessment as soon as possible.

 An application form, to be completed and signed by the Principal, including a Principal’s recommendation for the nominated teacher. The recommendation should address each of the areas of professional knowledge, professional practice and professional commitment.

 A detailed proposal for the activities of the teacher, including reference to the appropriate Professional Teaching Standards and how the proposed activities address the Preliminary Assessment Tool or PEET feedback.

Please note that the application is unlikely to be successful unless the proposal addresses the teacher’s needs as identified in the Preliminary Assessment or PEET feedback.

 A detailed budget clearly linked to the grant proposal.

Selection Criteria

 The extent to which the grant proposal addresses the professional needs of the teacher as indicated by the NSWIT Preliminary Assessment Tool or AISNSW PEET feedback and assists him or her to demonstrate the required the Professional Teaching Standards.

 The extent to which the grant proposal supports the professional activities to be undertaken by the nominated teacher so as to assist him or her to meet the Professional Teaching Standards at the nominated level.

 All required documentation has been submitted by the due date, unless prior arrangements have been made.

Financial and Educational Accountability Requirements

Financial Although the accreditation process may take up to two years, any funds allocated as part of the Rewards for Great Teachers Teacher Accreditation Grant need to be expended as agreed in the contract by the end of 2013.

A Financial Accountability Statement will be issued to schools at the beginning of 2014 as part of the AISNSW financial accountability process across all grants.

Educational For schools, the first stage of educational accountability will be due by the end of Term 4, 2013. It will consist of an interim report on the teacher’s progress toward completion of the accreditation process. A simple pro-forma will be sent to schools in Term 4, 2013 to facilitate this requirement.

In 2014 it is expected that schools will continue to support the teacher’s progress toward accreditation and will advise the AISNSW when accreditation is granted. Accreditation should be completed by the end of 2014.

This grant is funded through the Rewards for Great Teachers National Partnership and when requested, schools receiving a grant must agree to provide information for reporting purposes and to participate in associated evaluations.

The Rewards for Great Teachers National Partnership is an initiative of the Australian Government Rewards for Great Teachers 2013 Rewards for Great Teachers Accreditation Grant Application Form for those schools with teachers who have commenced or wish to commence the process of accreditation at Highly Accomplished Teacher/Professional Accomplishment or Lead Teacher/Professional Leadership Levels.
