Re: Following the latest decisions by the NKC on the 5th March 2006.

Remo Racing Pty Ltd would like to endorse, and ensure that the decision made by the NKC to make Leopard Class engines ‘standard out of the box racing’ with no modifications and no more money needed to spend to race in this class.

After speaking to IAME Spa, you will notice that the homologation documents that the AKA requested are in reference to the Parilla Leopard 125 RL TaG-AUS. This Leopard engine that we supply to Australia has its own part number designated for Australia only.

IAME have marked ‘AUS’ on the cylinder and cylinder liner on Australian imported engines. This is to identify clearly the cylinders designated for Australia.

This marking is also to protect competitors so they are competing against the same spec engines, as IAME make different spec cylinders for other countries for example; the USA have a higher exhaust port of 171º from the factory and are marked USA on the cylinder and liner.

1. To guarantee and ensure fair competition IAME will not supply future engines to Australia without AUS markings. This guarantees that there is one cylinder only in Australia.

All previous cylinders imported into Australia by Remo Racing Pty Ltd (engine numbers have been recorded) that do not have AUS on them need to be stamped. We need a 12-month period to inspect engines and stamp them (the same as Rotax previously did).

1 of 2 pages The Leopard engine ancillaries being the radiator, exhaust pipe and thermostat that are supplied with the original engine kit must be used. (At the previous NKC meeting, they made its ancillaries a non genuine item as they are not identifiable). IAME have come up with the following solutions;

2. With the exhaust, IAME will make tags that will be welded to the exhaust with the word IAME and part-number on them so that the exhaust pipe can be identifiable (the same system which is used for identifying CIK exhaust pipes that are CIK legal).

3. The radiator will have a self destructing sticker placed on it which will say IAME with the part-number. This type of sticker is made of special materials that if you try to remove it, it will self destruct. This type of sticker is CIK approved as they allow it on CIK bar work instead of ‘etching’ the words on the bar work. It is also used in the motor vehicle industry as ID plates. Again, we will need a 12-months period to inspect and approve radiators.

4. The thermostat that is supplied with the original engine kit is already clearly identifiable with the word IAME and part-number etched on the housing. By allowing only one thermostat this stops more expensive bypass types and others that are worth $300 to $400. The retail price of a genuine IAME one if it were to be replaces is only $155 complete with housing, thermostat, hose clamps and probe temperature plug. Internal thermostat can be replaced individually if damaged or worn out at a much lower cost.

In regards to all the above matters, I have spoken to John McCleverty, Ralph Van Doorn, Gary Light and Kevin McKinnon and they were all in agreement with the spirit and intent of the rule and that these items are supplied with the engine and they have no problem with them.

Kindest regards, REMO RACING PTY LTD
