PLEASE READ DEFINITIONS THOROUGHLY:

Monochrome: Any photograph containing shades of only one colour. If toning is carried out, it must be over the total photograph - partial toning and/or the addition of one extra colour is not acceptable in a monochrome section.

Monochrome Nature: includes birds, insects, animals, reptiles and fishes and including animals of a domestic nature provided no evidence of restrictions or caging or fencing is evident. The original image must have been taken by the photographer, whatever photographic medium is used. Any manipulation or modification to the original image is limited to minor retouching of blemishes and must not alter the content of the original scene. This also includes plants and/or flowers through any stage of the life cycle, from seed to decay. This includes bark, leaves, fungi, as well as flowers, seeds and grasses. Subjects may be cultivated or uncultivated.

People/Portraiture: A Photograph of a person or persons that may range from a head study to full body length. This section includes candid photographs and formal portraits.

Open: Any subject that is treated pictorially, embodying the elements of good design, arrangement or composition, which reflects the personal interpretation of the photographer.

Scapes: Land, Sea and Urban Landscapes depict natural features of the terrain, including lakes, waterways, and land-based cloud features. Minimal people and manmade objects. Seascapes may be water panoramas, wave studies or coastal vistas combining shoreline features. Minimal people and manmade objects including jetties, piers and boats. Urban can include street scapes, people, animals, buildings and vehicles. Close-up features are NOT regarded as landscapes.

Animal Kingdom: includes birds, insects, animals, reptiles and fishes and including animals of a domestic nature provided no evidence of restrictions or caging or fencing is evident. The original image must have been taken by the photographer, whatever photographic medium is used. Any manipulation or modification to the original image is limited to minor retouching of blemishes and must not alter the content of the original scene.

Plant Kingdom: This includes plants and/or flowers through any stage of the life cycle, from seed to decay. This includes bark, leaves, fungi, as well as flowers, seeds and grasses. Subjects may be cultivated or uncultivated.

Macro/Close up: Macro photography is taking extremely close-up images of any subject (excluding landscapes). The Technically correct definition would be to take an image at a 1:1 ratio but, in general usage, the term has come to mean any close-up photography.

Creative/Experimental: Creative or experimental photographs display a novel effect because of an unusual combination of objects and/or unusual viewpoint, including HDR techniques. Photographs in which the images have been modified during or after exposure by using an experimental technique are also eligible in Creative/Experimental sections. The photograph must always have a basic photographic image. Digital manipulation processes may be em- ployed providing the original photograph was exposed by the entrant. Creative or experimental photographs may be Colour and/or Monochrome or a combination of both.
