Job Title School Caretaker School Hackney New School Selection Criteria: Education and Training:

- Recent training in cleaning procedures, using machines and/ or other building maintenance. - Health & Safety Training

Experience/Knowledge:

- Previous experience in a building related trade (e.g. plumber, electrician, carpenter etc).

- Of security of building and whole site, including the grounds.

- Experience of supervising staff effectively.

- Knowledge of cleaning machines and materials.

- Knowledge/experience of monitoring of standards of cleaning and of performance.

- Experience of dealing with external contractors and ensuring they comply with site protocol.

Special Abilities / Aptitudes:

- A desire to be involved with the school and its ethos.

- Ability to perform repairs and other “handyperson duties”.

- Ability to write simple reports and memos on site issues for the School Business Manager and Headteacher.

- An understanding of and ability to implement Health and Safety procedures effectively.

- Capable of carrying out porterage duties.

- Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of people and to deal tactfully with users to resolve constructively any difficulties.

- Numerate and literate with an aptitude for attention to detail. Other Job Specific Requirements:

- Evidence of an understanding regarding confidentiality of information in school.

- Ability to manage own time effectively and be well-organised.

- Must have high standards (i.e. cleaning / work carried out)

- Must have a good professional and positive manner.

- Availability and willingness to work evenings and weekends.

- An ability to work on own initiative, to plan, anticipates problems and find solutions.
