Riverwatch Middle School Cheerleading Clinic and Tryouts August 17-19 4:30-6:00  Both male and female athletes may tryout  Clinic will be held August 17-19 from 4:30-6:00  All participants must be dressed out and in the gym by 4:30  Tryouts will be held on Wednesday, August 19 , beginning at 4:30  All participants must wear a plain white shirt and black shorts on Friday for judging

Candidates need to come to clinic each day prepared. This tryout will not be the traditional tryout in the sense that candidates will be judged each day on attitude, punctuality, cooperation, respect for authority, willingness to learn and ability to learn material quickly. These behaviors will be observed during the four days in order to help the coach make decisions about squad placement. The cheer will be judged on precision, enthusiasm, and execution. Dance will be judged on uniformity and motions. Overall performance will be scored on facial expressions, volume, voice, fluid motions, spacing, confidence, energy and recovery.

Requirements:  You MUST turn in a current physical with your application (the blue packet) NOTE: It is very important that the ENTIRE packet is completed and turned in with this folder.  Must have outstanding behavior in all classes. You must turn in two teacher recommendation forms from the previous school year: 2014-2015. This ensures that the recommending teacher knows the candidate well enough to give a thorough and honest recommendation.  PARTICIPANTS MUST ATTEND ALL TRY-OUT DATES!*  Attend all choreography sessions.  Participate in all fund raisers and community service activities.  Maintain high academic standards.  Participate in all pre/post-game activities and preparations.  Attend all games and practices.  Participate in all playoff games regardless of holidays and All-star Cheerleading.  Both participants and parents must understand the time involved in cheerleading: summer practice, after school practice, games and competitions. Academic Eligibility o Eligibility will be based on the grades posted on the report card for the second semester during the 2014-2015 school year. A candidate failing 2 or more classes is not eligible for the squad. This includes an average of connection classes. Grades will be checked by the coach, if at that time the cheerleader does not meet eligibility the student will forfeit his/her place on the squad and another student may be placed on the squad.

The following is what coaches and judges will be looking for:  Good Attitude (Teacher recommendations and participation during clinic)  Jumps (Toe Touch, Herkie, Pike, etc…)  Dance (timing, coordination and precise motions)  Cheer- spirit, voice projection and motions- solid arm movements (stiff and precise)  Tumbling and stunting are not permitted in basketball cheerleading per county policy.
