Explanatory notes

1 The following unit standards may be considered relevant to and/or supportive of this unit standard, but are not prerequisite unit standards: Unit 11963, Dispatch goods in a retail or distribution environment; Unit 11975, Pick and assemble goods for dispatch in a retail or distribution environment; Unit 11982, Pick and assemble goods using a computerised inventory management system; and Unit 11983, Operate electrical goods movement equipment in a distribution facility.

2 Performance of the outcomes of this unit standard must comply with the requirements of the following: Dangerous Goods Act 1974, AS/NZS 3833:1998 The storage and handling of mixed classes of dangerous goods in packages and intermediate bulk containers, Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995, other published statutes, regulations, codes of practice, guidelines and standards relevant to the particular work site; and their subsequent amendments and replacements. 3 Definitions s Distribution facility refers to a workplace where the primaryi focuss i is on storage and distribution of stock. d d Agreed indicates a course of action that is agreed betweenr ar two or more people (including the candidate) and which follows organisationalad procedures. Outcome 1

Demonstrate knowledge of packaging requirements in a distribution facility.

Evidence requirements

1.1 Internal packaging requirements for selected goods are described.

Range packing requirements could include but are not limited to - packaging strength and material, stacking methods, use of space, labelling, documentation, organisational procedures.

1.2 External packaging requirements for goods are described.

1.3 Packaging requirements for hazardous goods are described in terms of organisational procedures and legislative requirements.

1.4 Stacking of packaged goods is described in terms of determining factors.

Range factors could include but are not limited to - product (size, shape, strength), available space, destination, mode of transport.

Package and identify goods in a distribution facility.

Evidence requirements

2.1 Selected packaging meets requirements for specific goods.

2.2 Goods are packaged in accordance with organisational procedures within agreed timeframe.
