Parental Involvement Policy
Paul Revere Middle School is a school-wide Title I, Part A campus that strongly believes parental involvement is essential to reaching the academic objectives for our students. Parents have the right to be involved in the planning, review, and improvement of Revere’s Title I program and parental involvement policy.
It is Paul Revere’s mission to collaborate with parents and the community to promote and develop each child’s unique needs through:
Delivering innovative and rigorous instruction Establishing high expectations Providing extracurricular opportunities Instilling pride Celebrating diversity
To ensure students not only acquire strong academic skills, but also become responsible, productive citizens.
With Revere working collaboratively with parents we believe that we will be that much closer to reaching our goal. Parents and community leaders are welcome to visit our campus and participate in a variety of meetings and activities:
Open House Parent Advisory Council (PAC) Shared Decision Making Committee (SDMC) Parent Involvement Workshops Monthly Parent Meetings STEM Night Literacy Night Parent Resource Center (in library) Project 360 (School/Community Project) College and Career Fair Magnet Awareness Parent Resource Fair Cultural Heritage Months
Revere Middle School will offer a flexible number of meetings, which will be scheduled in the morning and/or evening to accommodate all parents. Title I funds enables Revere Middle School to sponsor and implement these and other parental involvement activities to promote on-going parental participation.
Our school holds an annual Open House where the principal presents his “vision” for the year while introducing the Title I school requirements. Our Parent Resource Center is located in the school’s library and is available to all parents during school hours. Parents have access to computers to log-on to Parent-Connect and monitor their child/children’s academic progress. An organized PAC has been established at Revere that works in conjunction with the PTO to create a forum for parental discussion and input. We also use a variety of other avenues to connect with parents such as, Revere’s School Newsletter, Revere’s School Website, PAC meetings, PTO meetings, SDMC meetings, ARD meetings, Parent/Teacher Conferences, the electronic school sign, parent phone calls though school messenger, and Connect Ed. In addition, individual notes, progress reports, and report cards are sent home with students.
Revere Middle School will assist parents with understanding the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR), and other district assessments. A description and explanation of the curriculum used at Revere, the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet will be addressed. Our school will provide materials and training to help parents work with their children, such as literacy training and using technology to foster parental involvement. Computer classes are available for all parents.
Revere’s goal is to work diligently with parents and teachers to achieve academic success and achievement for our students. Therefore, we will send home a school-parent compact that outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement. These compacts will be used to motivate parents and students to become involved in the educational process and serve as a reminder to parents that they are equal partners in their child’s learning.
If the school-wide program plan is not satisfactory to the parents of participating children, the school will submit parents’ comments on the plan to the Department of External funding and revise the plan as advised by the HISD Title I, Part A Parental Involvement Program Administrator and other District designees as advised.
