Bowies on the Beach 2007 Will Host Michael Janich Presenting a Two-Day Training Seminar

Michael Janich will be presenting two and half days of training in Virginia Beach, Va. In this seminar, Michael Janich will present comprehensive instruction in the fundamental skills of his MBC system and expand on those skills to introduce progressive training methods that support higher skill development with edged and improvised weapons.

This course will provide step-by-step instruction in the fundamental skills of using a knife as a defensive weapon, including knife carry, high-speed deployment, recognition and identification of common street attacks, defensive responses, anatomical targeting, and the realities of knife stopping power. Building on this foundation, it will introduce progressive training methods and reflex training drills to accelerate skill development and combat reflexes. Finally, it will include detailed instruction in MBC's close-quarters reverse-grip system and the methods of adapting that system to improvised weapons, including kubotans, pens, and tactical flashlights.

Who is Michael Janich and what does he teach? Michael Janich is the author of numerous books and videos on personal defense and edged-weapon tactics, including: FIGHTING FOLDERS ADVANCED FIGHTING FOLDERS MASTERING FIGHTING FOLDERS MARTIAL BLADE CONCEPTS COUNTER-BLADE CONCEPTS KNIFE FIGHTING A Practical Course. These books and videos are published by Paladin Press.

Janich teaches an edged-weapon self defense system called Martial Blade Concepts. For more information on Janich’s background and the MBC system, please refer to his website: http://www.martialbladeconcepts.com

What is Martial Blade Concepts?

Unlike traditional edged-weapon training, MBC is not about “knife fighting.” Instead, MBC’s basic physical goal is to “learn how to fight effectively with a knife” – applying the attributes of the knife to the broadest possible set of defensive circumstances. At a more advanced level, the physical skills of the MBC method are also designed to form the basis for unarmed defensive skills – including unarmed defenses against knives – and the use of improvised and other purpose-designed weapons for personal defense.

What topics will be covered?

 Martial knife grips  Angles of attack  Ballistic cutting and thrusting tactics  The use of natural body weapons in conjunction with the knife  The proven “Zone Defense” system that enables a practitioner to effectively defend himself against hundreds of different attacks by mastering a few basic defensive movements.  Reflex training drills that quickly develop spontaneous defensive reactions  Critical defensive applications  Inside tips on defensive knife selection and evaluation  Secrets of tactical folding knife carry and deployment  High-speed one-handed opening techniques
