COOPER OF PAWLEY’S ISLAND ON AUGUST 15 11, 2001, AND CONVEY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS 16 FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS. 17 18 Whereas, the House of Representatives was extremely saddened 19 when Charles F. Cooper passed away on Saturday, August 11, 20 2001, at Wee Tee Plantation in the Suttons Community of 21 Williamsburg County; and 22 23 Whereas, Charles F. Cooper was born in Kingstree to the late 24 Robert Peter Cooper and Nettie Knight Cooper. He graduated 25 from Williamsburg High School, Wingate University, and the 26 Medical University of South Carolina, College of Pharmacy; and 27 28 Whereas, Mr. Cooper began his career at Reynolds Drug Store as a 29 pharmacy intern. From there he founded the pharmacy at 30 Georgetown Memorial Hospital in 1966, and went on to serve as 31 Director of Pharmacy and financial management at the hospital. 32 He was the founder and owner of several other pharmacies and 33 services from Montgomery, Alabama to Washington, D.C., as well 34 as all over South Carolina; and 35 36 Whereas, Charles F. Cooper has been honored with numerous 37 awards and other recognition throughout his many years in the 38 health care industry including “Entrepreneur of the Year for Health 39 Care” in 1993 and South Carolina “Pharmacist of the Year” in 40 1981. He has also served on and been a vital member of various 41 hospital and health care boards and was on the advisory boards of 42 many drug companies; and
1 [4366] 1 1 2 Whereas, Mr. Cooper’s interest were quite vast in scope. He was a 3 founding member of Wachesaw Plantation and Golf Resort in 4 Murrells Inlet; a member of several banking, financial, and 5 economic boards; and a member of the Waccamaw Private 6 Industry Council for Georgetown, Williamsburg, and Horry 7 counties; and 8 9 Whereas, Charles F. Cooper will be dearly missed by the many 10 friends whose lives he has touched throughout his life, and he will 11 be especially missed by his wife, Carol Clemons Cooper of 12 Pawley’s Island; sons Charles F. Cooper, Jr., and his wife Robbie, 13 Gary C. Cooper and his wife, Kelly, all of Pawley’s Island; 14 daughters, Gina Cooper of Ballentine, Christy C. Whitlock and her 15 husband, David, of Pawley’s Island; brothers, R. P. Cooper, Jr., 16 Donald E. Cooper, both of Andrews; grandchildren, Wesley 17 Whitlock, Caroline Whitlock, Cooper Anne Whitlock, Tabor 18 Cooper, Charles F. Cooper III, Gracyn Cooper, G. Clemons 19 Cooper, Jr., Miles Clemons, Haley Clemons, Anderson Franklin 20 Clemons, all of Pawley’s Island; mother-in-law, Connie M. 21 Clemons of Pawley’s Island; sister-in-law, Mona C. Talley of 22 Pawley’s Island; and relative and close friend, Dr. Troy B. 23 Gamble, Jr., of Columbia. Now, therefore, 24 25 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 26 27 That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of 28 South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow 29 upon the death of Charles F. Cooper of Pawley’s Island on August 30 11, 2001, and convey deepest sympathy to his family and many 31 friends. 32 33 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 34 Mrs. Carol Clemons Cooper. 35 ----XX----
