4 Exemplary  The student’s work is complete, constructed with complete sentences, written in correct paragraph form (*topic sentence, *three or more sentences having supporting details - organized in a logical and sequential order, and a *summary sentence) and contains correct spelling, punctuation, grammar and capitalization.  The student’s ideas are expressed in a way, which reflects excellent understanding and reasoning.

3 Accomplished  The student’s work is fairly complete, constructed with complete sentences, written in correct paragraph form (*topic sentence, *three or more sentences having supporting details - organized in a logical and sequential order, and a *summary sentence) and contains correct spelling, punctuation, grammar and capitalization.  The student’s ideas are expressed in a way, which reflects very good understanding and reasoning.

2 Developing  The student’s work is somewhat complete, constructed with mostly complete sentences, written in somewhat correct paragraph form (*topic sentence, *three or more sentences having supporting details - organized in a logical and sequential order, and a *summary sentence) and contains somewhat correct spelling, punctuation, grammar and capitalization.  The student’s ideas are expressed in a way, which reflects fair understanding and reasoning.

1 Beginning  The student’s work is incomplete, constructed with few complete sentences, not written in correct paragraph form (*topic sentence, *three or more sentences having supporting details - organized in a logical and sequential order, and a *summary sentence) and contains little correct spelling, punctuation, grammar and capitalization.  The student’s ideas are expressed in a way, which reflects very poor or no understanding and reasoning.
