Teacher of Spanish

Beaumont School Teacher of Spanish Details for candidates

Beaumont School is seeking to recruit a well-qualified, enthusiastic and committed teacher to join an existing team of 12, to cover maternity leave. The Languages department is a flourishing and friendly department and new staff are well supported. The MFL department was judged as outstanding by Ofsted in a subject inspection in March 2008. This post represents an excellent opportunity for a talented teacher to contribute to new initiatives as part of our Language College. MFL is a high status subject at Beaumont and the successful candidate will have many opportunities for professional development. Ideally the successful candidate will be able to teach Spanish to A Level, with French or German as a second language.

Curriculum Half of year 7 study French as a first language and half study German. All students take a second language in Year 8, French, German or Spanish. We have one fast- track French group who will take GCSE French at the end of Year 10 and one fast track German group. All students take one language to GCSE and many take two. Results are good with around 70% of student achieving a higher grade pass each year.

French, German and Spanish are all offered at AS and A2 level and we have a language assistant for each of these languages. We have good uptake in all languages in the Sixth Form.

Resources The department is well-resourced. We have seven fully equipped classrooms and our own ICT room. Pupils all have their own text books and each MFL classroom is equipped with a multi-media projector.

Enrichment activities The department offers many enrichment opportunities for pupils. There is a wide range of trips and visits on offer, including the French and German exchanges, French Sixth Form work experience, Spanish study visit and lower school residential trips. We also work closely with our primary schools and currently provide French lessons for our feeder schools. Other activities have included summer schools, lunch hour and after school clubs, theatre and cinema visits and e-mail links.

If you feel that you can offer the subject expertise, creativity, commitment and ability to enthuse, we would very much welcome your application.
