Appendix 3 The grasshopper and the ant Once upon a time, on a hot summer day, a lazy grasshopper was sitting on a branch of a tree. Then, he saw a long line of ants carrying food to their nest. His friend, Ant was there too.

Grasshopper: A good day, Ant! Why are you working so hard? It’s hot out there. Come and sing a song with me. Ant: We can’t do that. We must search for food before winter. Grasshopper: What’s wrong with winter? Let it come. Ant: The weather will be very cold and the ground will be covered with snow. There will be no food to eat. Grasshopper: The summer is long. I shall collect food later. For now, I want to sing.

The cheerful grasshopper was singing but the hardworking ants were collecting food throughout the summer. A month later, it started to snow. Soon, the land was covered with snow. The grasshopper had no food to eat. He felt very hungry and cold. The grasshopper went to Ant’s house to ask for food.

Grasshopper: Ant, please help me. I’m cold and hungry. Please give me some food! Ant: What were doing all summer? Grasshopper: I was singing and playing. I was being irresponsible and lazy. I have learned my lesson. Please give some food! Ant: Alright then. Come in and share my food. Grasshopper: Thank you, Ant. You are very kind.
