COMPLETELY answer the following questions based on the first five chapters of Dracula. Be sure to look at each question though, certain questions require you to use specific chapters. Also, make sure you are using textual evidence to support your answers!!
#1 Choose three instances of foreshadowing that happen within the first three chapters of the novel and describe which future event that each predicts/foreshadows.
#2 Dracula was written in 1897, so the values and beliefs of the characters reflect this era. Cite incidents from the story illustrating the view of 1897 society on each of the following topics: women, scientific advances, and superstitions.
#3 Physiognomy is the practice of trying to judge character and mental qualities by observing a person’s facial features and body, including a person’s hands. How does Jonathan describe the Count’s facial features and his hands? What can the reader infer about the Count’s character traits based on these descriptions?
#4 Describe the use of imagery in Dracula and how it adds to both the atmosphere of the story and character development.
