Hints for Organizing Your Answers to Interview Questions

Hints for organizing your answers to interview questions.

1. Organize your answer in advance! You can pre-write because I’ve given you the questions. 2. You will be expected to write a well-organized paragraph to answer these questions. Your paragraph should contain the following: a. A topic sentence that restates the question. This is a general statement. b. 2 details/examples from your skills and experience. You should also identify at least 1 quality that makes you a good employee. (reliable, friendly, hard-working…) c. 1 reference to an employer. Refer to them by name if possible. What is something they have said you do well?

3. Write in paragraph form. Make sure you write in complete sentences. You can order your ideas with transition words like “first”, “second”, “for example”, “also”, and “in addition”

4. Remember to be honest, but share what you can do. Think about the positive things people have said about you in your school-based jobs, or in other jobs you have had like babysitting.

Example: Why should we hire you?

You should hire me for many reasons. First, I’ve worked as a camp counselor with just about every age group from kindergarten through junior high. Second, I have experience putting on camp shows and musicals, and I can assist the drama coach. My boss, Wendy Safe, at Camp Willow said I’m a great leader, and that all the campers love to be in my cabin. You will find that I bring a lot of enthusiasm to the job.
