BRYANT POND 4-H CAMP AND LEARNING CENTER
WHAT TO BRING LIST Expeditions
Note: Compared to cotton, synthetic “microfleece” or nylon items compress well, dry quickly, and keep you warm even when wet. Earth tone colored clothing helps keep insects away and allows you to blend in with the environment. *Indicates items that can be borrowed from Bryant Pond
Required Items:
1 backpack big enough to carry all your personal equipment (5500-6500 cubic inches) * Dry bag for canoeing section (more than 1 if possible) Notebook or journal, pens or pencils 2-3 changes of shirts (at least one long sleeved) 2 pair of long pants (one should be quick drying, synthetic…not cotton) 1-2 pairs of shorts (one should be quick drying, synthetic) Underwear for 6 days 1 pair of synthetic thermal underwear, top and bottom 3-4 pairs of wool socks (we like Smartwool brand socks) 1 wool/fleece hat (most heat loss occurs from our heads!) 1 wool or synthetic fleece tops Rain gear: top and bottom (No ponchos) 1 pair of hiking boots (break them in by wearing them for several weeks before start) 1 pair of low top shoes that can get wet (an old pair of sneakers or running shoes) Basic toiletries (remember, perfumed and scented products attract bugs!) Sleeping bag (20-40 degree)* Sleeping pad * 2-32oz wide-mouthed Flashlight or headlamp (and extra batteries) Swimsuit (camp appropriate) Sunglasses (with straps) Sun screen and hat with visor 2 bandanas Medications Whistle Sunscreen/Lip Balm Matches ID Gaiters
Optional Items: Book to read, stationery, stamps, pens, pencils Trekking Poles Bug repellant (low DEET content, and non-aerosol please!) Sandals Pack towel Camera spare glasses (if you wear them) Musical instruments Neoprene booties Water filter Money Camp chair Your own PFD Your own canoe paddle Fishing equipment (you must have a current Maine fishing license if you plan to fish) Sheath knife Multi-tool or swiss army knife
