1Make the following Section a part of the Standard Specifications: 2 3 “SECTION 694 - MICROCOMPUTER SYSTEM 4 5694.01 Description. This work includes furnishing, installing and 6maintaining a fully operational microcomputer system (including software) for the 7Engineer's use according to the contract. 8 9694.02 Materials. 10 11 (A) General. Furnish new, top quality hardware and software 12 components including interfaces, controller cards, cables, etc. necessary 13 to make them into a fully functioning system. 14 15 (B) Microcomputer. Furnish one of the following portable 16 microcomputers which shall be configured to meet the specified minimum 17 requirements: 18 19 (1) Portable microcomputer. 20 21 (a) Gateway 2000, Colorbook DX2-50 by Gateway 2000. 22 23 (b) Toshiba T4700CS by Toshiba America. 24 25 (c) IBM ThinkPad 755C by IBM PC Direct. 26 27 (d) AST Ascentia 900N by AST Research, Inc. 28 29 (e) Equivalent as accepted by the Engineer. 30 31 (2) Minimum Requirements. 32 33 (a) CPU, 486DX2, 50 MHZ processor with 8 KB internal 34 cache with integrated battery-saving system. 35 36 (b) 9.2-inch dual-scan or active color LCD with 37 accelerated local bus graphics. 38 39 (c) IBM-PC disk format and software compatibility. 40 41 (d) MS-DOS 6.2 or later. 42 43 (e) Windows 3.1 or later. 44 45 (f) 8 MB RAM upgradable to 20 MB. 46 47 1 (Project No.) 2 694-1a 10/10/07 48 (g) 120 MB minimum, hard drive built-in 49 50 (h) Double-sided, double-density 1.44 mb disk drive, 51 built-in. 52 53 (I) Integrated pointing device, built-in. 54 55 (j) Suspend/Resume operation feature. 56 57 (k) AC/DC charger with extra battery. 58 59 (l) SVGA port to support two screens simultaneously. 60 61 (m) Ports/Slots: Parallel, 9-pin serial, PS/2 ports (one 62 PCMCIA Type III slot or two PCMCIA Type II slots) 63 64 (n) Weight under 7 pounds without AC adapter. 65 66 (o) Size smaller than 10" x 12" x 2.5". 67 68 (p) Carrying case to include space for charger and extra 69 battery. 70 71 (q) One year warranty with toll-free tech support. 72 73 (C) Printer. Provide the current versions of the following, 114 complete with all disks, cards, tutorials, manuals, etc: 115 116 (1) Microsoft Office for Windows. 117 118 (2) WinFax Pro 4.0 for Windows. 119 120 (3) Norton Utilities 8.0 121 122 (E) Other Components. Also supply the following: 123 124 (1) Surge protector and line filter, 15 Amps, four outlets with 125 circuit breaker control and surge indicator light. 126 127 (2) 15-inch Super VGA color monitor and cable compatible with 128 the microcomputer Super VGA port, 0.28 dot pitch, resolution 129 1024 x 768 pixels, 75 Hz vertical refresh rate, and flat-square type 130 picture tube. 131 132 (3) 50 Double-Sided 3.5-inch High Density 1.44 MB Diskettes 133 suitable for the disk drive. 134 135 (4) 3.5-Inch storage containers: one - 50 count, five - 10 count 136 and five designed for transportation of at least one diskette each. 137 138 (5) Disk drive cleaning kit of a type recommended by the 139 selected disk drive's manufacturer. 140 5 (Project No.) 6 694-3a 10/10/07 141 (6) Two boxes each of 14 inch x 8.5 inch, and 8.5 inch x 11 142 inch letter quality printer paper (minimum 2000 sheets per box). 143 144 (7) A sufficient number of self-adhesive, color coded labels 145 appropriate for use on diskettes if not included with the diskettes. 146 147 (8) A full duplex, autodial, 9600-bps, direct connection modem 148 equivalent to the HAYES Optima 9600 with appropriate software. 149 150 (E) Substitutions. Due to the competitive computer market, pre- 151 bundle packages of hardware and software may be available at significant 152 discounts. New, improved versions of products are constantly entering 153 the market. Submit requests for substitution of hardware or software 154 items to the Engineer for acceptance. Submit such requests with the 155 detailed list of the microcomputer system. See 635.03(A). 156 157694.03 Delivery, Installation, and Maintenance. Submit a microcomputer 158system proposal in writing for acceptance to the Engineer within 10 days of 159award of the contract. Upon written acceptance, furnish and install the 160portable microcomputer, software, and printer within five working days. 161Furnish and install the other components within the next five days. Provide 162expert, technical assistance for a total of five working days to satisfactorily set up 163the complete system. 164 165When the above time frame cannot be met, immediately make available a 166temporary computer system that is functionally identical to the portable 167microcomputer system. Provide full, unrestricted, expert assistance to set up 168programs and files on the temporary computer system and later, to successfully 169transfer the files to the portable microcomputer system. The Engineer will 170consider the cost for the use of the temporary system including the technical 171assistance and the materials used such as diskettes, paper, etc as included in 172the various contract items.. 173 174Maintain the components and replace broken or damaged equipment within two 175working day. 176 177The entire system shall remain the property of the State after completion of the 178contract. 179 180 181694.04 Measurement. Microcomputer system will be paid on a lump sum 182basis. Measurement for payment will not apply. 183 184694.05 Payment. The Engineer will pay for the accepted microcomputer 185system on a contract lump sum basis. Payment will be full compensation for 186the work prescribed in this section and the contract documents. 187 7 (Project No.) 8 694-4a 10/10/07 188 189The Engineer will pay for the following pay item: 190 191 Pay Item Pay Unit 192 193Microcomputer System (Not to Exceed $10,000.00) Lump Sum 194 195The maximum bid allowable is $10,000. If the proposal submitted by the bidder 196indicates an amount over the allowable maximum, the Engineer will reduce the 197amount to the allowable maximum and will adjust the 'Sum of all Items' in the 198proposal schedule to reflect such reduction. For the purposes of comparing 199bids and determining the contract price to be inserted in the contract awarded to 200the bidder, if any is so awarded, the Engineer will use the 'Sum of All Items' 201adjusted according to the foregoing and will deem the bidder's proposal to have 202been submitted for the amount as reduced and adjusted in accordance herewith.” 203 204 205 206 207 208 END OF SECTION 694
