Bobby Orr joins Ducks Unlimited Canada’s Wetland Conservation Team

PLACE and TODAY’S DATE — Canadian hockey legend Bobby Orr has joined Ducks Unlimited Canada’s (DUC) wetland conservation team by contributing a special item to this year’s fundraising events that’s sure to attract the attention of sports enthusiasts everywhere.

Orr has made a limited number of autographed replicas of his 1976 Team Canada jersey available exclusively to DUC for auction at 2010 fundraising events. Orr was named MVP at the Canada Cup tournament and it was the only time he played for his country in an international series, which makes this jersey an extremely special collector’s item.

The limited edition “Orr jersey” is framed along with a Team Canada puck, a photo of Orr in action and a commemorative plaque summarizing Orr’s outstanding tournament accomplishments. One of the Orr jerseys is up for auction at the DUC EVENT NAME (e.g. Calgary banquet) to be held on DAY, DATE at WHERE. (e.g. Thursday, October 24 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel). This special jersey is available only through DUC events. Orr, the legendary hockey hero and wetland conservation advocate, is a strong and proud supporter of DUC:

“When I was a kid growing up in Canada, I spent a lot of time outside, and that taught me to appreciate and value nature” Orr says. “I want to do my part for Canada’s wetlands. These jerseys, along with other great items, will be auctioned off with the proceeds going toward wetland conservation. I’m very proud to be part of the DU Canada team”

Travis Peckham, volunteer chair of DUC’s Revenue and Membership Committee, said DUC is thrilled to team up with Orr in the name of wetland conservation.

“We are tremendously excited to have Bobby Orr endorse our cause and organization,” says Peckham. “To many Canadians, Bobby Orr represents excellence, passion and patriotism. We think those qualities line up very well with DUC.”

The Orr display will likely be one of the most sought-after items at this year’s event. The evening will also offer outdoor enthusiasts many other DUC merchandise items that will go home with successful bidders and lucky winners. Revenue generated by this fundraising event will be directed to DUC’s conservation, education and research programs.
