The chest itself measures about 32 inches wide, 15 inches deep and 14 inches tall. The front of the chest has the name "K.J. BAKER, SHIPT" painted on, and the inside of the lid is painted a crest with the words "AUDAX OMNIA PERPETI" which we have been told translates to Boldness to Endure Anything or Always. Inside the box are several long ship auger bits, bits, calking irons, hawsing iron, a FINE Lignum calking mallet, hammers, adz, chisels, gouges, a large wooden bevel, iron brace with replaced wooden handle, large drawknife with cracked wooden handles, wooden jack plane, wrench, deck scraper, sailor's palm, nine smaller planes including a compass, two smoothers, spar, oar, The planes and calking mallet are the highlights of this box. They show little wear. The iron bits on the other hand have been used and show considerable wear. A few of the calking irons have had new ends added onto them, the wooden handle of the brace has been replaced. This was one man's working chest of tools.
