A JOINT RESOLUTION directing that the POW/MIA flag be flown at the Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial. WHEREAS, the history of this nation has been shaped by brave men and women in the Armed Forces who have answered the call of America's highest duty; and WHEREAS, while we honor our veterans for their strength, service, and sacrifice, it is equally important to remember service people who remain unaccounted for and are missing in action; and WHEREAS, there are still thousands of American military personnel whose whereabouts remain unknown; and WHEREAS, the families of these courageous soldiers deserve to know that America has not forgotten their outstanding contributions to this nation; and WHEREAS, the flag of the National League of Families of American Prisoners of War and Missing in Southeast Asia has adopted an official black and white banner which symbolizes America's missing and our unwavering determination to account for them; and WHEREAS, the POW/MIA flag is the only flag ever displayed in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda where it will stand as a powerful symbol of national commitment to America's POW/MIA's until the fullest possible accounting has been achieved for United States personnel still missing and unaccounted for from the Vietnam War; and

WHEREAS, the importance of the POW/MIA flag lies in its continued visibility, a constant reminder of the plight of America's POW/MIA's and the suffering and grief of their families; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: Section 1. The Commonwealth of Kentucky, through its executive agent, the Department of Military Affairs, shall honor Kentucky's Prisoners of War and Missing in Action by flying the POW/MIA flag each day of the year at the Kentucky Vietnam
