What Can I Do With A Major In… VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS
General Information: Through studio arts, performance, theory, scholarship, and creative uses of media and technology, students will engage in an investigative approach to the arts, where the local and global converge, where cross-fertilization inspires critical thinking, dialogue, improvisation, and where diversity of thought is intrinsic to artistic process and practice. The Department of Visual and Performing Arts encompasses many majors and minors: Art History analyses the evolution of art through the centuries focusing on its meaning within society. Film Studies enriches many academic subjects and majors with its critical and multicultural exploration of cinematic expression. Music offers 2 tracks: Creative Music Practice, Performance & Technology AND Composition & Sound Design. Studio Art, or Visual Art, emphasizes actual production of art, including digital media, drawing, painting, photography, sculpture/installation, sound collage, and video Theater provides the student with a theoretical/historical grounding in the art of the theater, and the opportunity to put theories into practice in performance situations.
