In a competition featuring 10 teams in total, Mynydd Cynffig Primary School ‘A’ went undefeated in their four matches in Pool One to reach the Final as group winners where we were narrowly beaten by Pool Two winners Nantymoel Primary by two goals to one. Mynydd Cynffig Primary School ‘B’ gained invaluable experience and performed really well, winning one, drawing one and suffering two defeats in their group matches. Our squads were as follows: Mynydd Cynffig Primary School ‘A’: Katie Coombes, Callum Thomas, Phoebe Parry, Paige Baldwin, Darcy Rees, Lois Thomas, Hollie Gentle, Ffion Thomas, Gracie Davies and Emily Gentle-Ross Mynydd Cynffig Primary School ‘B’: Bethan Watkins, Morgan Flaherty, Isabella-May Lima, Freya Hampton, Evie Richards, Megan Nicholls, Olivia Hughes and Tiana Woodward Many thanks to Miss Morgan for preparing the players for this event and well done to all who played - your attitude on court and behaviour off it were both excellent! Inter-School Netball & Rugby Fixtures Last Friday we played netball and rugby matches at home to Caerau Primary School. On the netball court, our ‘A’ team won by 7 goals to one; our ‘B’ team won by one goal to nil; our ‘C’ team won by five goals to three. Our ‘A’ rugby team won by five tries to two with Lloyd Thomas (2), Austin Davies, Ethan Dewar and Reggie Hyde-Jones scoring. Kye Stanton touched down for our ‘B’ team who played gallantly against Caerau ‘A’ before losing by four tries to one. Parents/ Grandparents of pupils taking part are welcome to attend these assemblies: Class 5 (Mrs Van Rooyen) Friday 9th March 2018 (2.30 p.m.) Class 4 (Mrs Cole) Friday 16th March 2018 (2.30 p.m.) Spring Term 2018 Class Assemblies – Key Stage 2 (Juniors) Thank you to Class 8 (Mr Price) for performing your Assembly so well in front of an appreciative audience last Friday. You shared what you have learnt so far this academic year using very clear speaking voices and with some really good acting! Well done to you all! Parents/ Grandparents of pupils taking part are welcome to attend these assemblies: Class 7 (Mrs Griffiths) Friday 2nd February 2018 (10.15 a.m.) Class 10 (Miss Morgan) Friday 16th February 2018 (10.15 a.m.) Class 9 (Miss Bevan) Friday 9th March 2018 (10.15 a.m.) Gracie Davies (Class 13) Many congratulations to Year 6 pupil Gracie Davies who unselfishly volunteered herself in the Rope Rescue event at the Welsh Surf Life Saving Championships in Swansea last weekend to ensure that a member of the Sker & Pink Bay Junior Team (12 years+) was able to participate. Without Gracie volunteering, her older club mate would not have been able to compete as his intended partner was absent on the day of the event. Her act of selflessness is a credit to herself, to her club and also to our school. Well done Gracie – you should be extremely proud of this! Welsh Surf Life Saving Association (SLSA) Nipper Championships Good luck to Gracie Davies (Class 13), Evie Richards (Class 12), Amelia Franklyn (Class 10), Thomas Williams (Class 10) and Chloe Davies (Class 8) who will be representing Sker & Pink Bay at the Welsh Surf Life Saving Association (SLSA) Nipper Championships on Sunday 4th February at Wales National Pool. Our pupils will be competing against up to 20 clubs in a series of events, including swimming, manikin tow/ rescue and board rescue, in the hope of becoming a Welsh Nipper Lifeguard champion! Bridgend Schools Cross-Country Race Meeting – Saturday 24 th March 2018 The next meeting will take place on Saturday 24th March 2018 at 10 a.m. at Brynteg Comprehensive School. Kenfig Hill Amateur Boxing Club – Change of Training Night Kenfig Hill Boxing Club are running Junior sessions for children aged 8 and upwards on Mondays, Wednesdays and now on Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. (£3 per session) at the Gym at Unit 4, Heol Mostyn (formerly Xtreme Physique). Kidzone at Bethel Community Church Kidzone for children aged 7 – 11 runs on Friday evenings from 5.30 p.m. – 6.45 p.m. at Bethel Community Church on Pwllygath Street, Kenfig Hill. Parents are requested to take their child/ren to Kidzone where they can register their attendance. For more information, please telephone 01656 857505. Statutory Testing in Wales 2018 Parents please note that the National statutory tests in Wales for Reading and Numeracy for pupils in Year 2 to Year 6 will take place between Wednesday 2nd May and Wednesday 9th May 2018.
