Professional Work Experience

Statistics Canada GIS Coop Student September 2016 – Present (6 months) Maintained and updated the National Geographic Database using ArcMap and custom tools. Also developed a Python Toolbox which implements a script to identify isolated roads in the road network of the NGD.

Sunnyside Archaeological Site Archaeological Field Worker October 2014 (1 month) Excavated a historic period house on the coast of Newfoundland. Used modern excavation techniques and catalogued a series of interesting 17th and 18th century items.

Various Newfoundland Archaeological Sites Survey Field Assistant Various in 2013 - 2014 Used current archaeological survey techniques to locate sites in and around the Avalon Peninsula and the interior of Newfoundland. This required some research, reading old maps and texts and comparing that data to remotely sense imagery to help find sites.

Memorial University of Newfoundland Archaeological Surveyer / Researcher July 2013 – August 2013 (2 months) Used a total station to map the location of archaeological feature as well as to generate an accurate map of the valley within which the archaeological features are located. Gathered visual recordings from all over the site as well as GPS data to be use in the development of a GIS using both the Viewshed tool and the Least Cost Path analysis.

Memorial University of Newfoundland Research Assistant / Teaching Assistant September 2012 – April 2013 (8 months) Recorded and catalogued a large collection of zoological and archeological materials from an Arctic archaeological site and boxed them for transfer to the Canadian Museum of History. Developed and taught three lectures to undergraduate students.

Ferryland Archaeological Site Archaeological Field Worker May 2012 – August 2012 (4 months) Worked on a large scale excavation with a large field and lab team. Excavated, recorded and catalogued hundreds of artifacts. Drew the profile of several parts of the archaeological excavation and mapped some of the archaeological features uncovered. Memorial University of Newfoundland Digital Lab Assistant January 2012 – April 2012 (4 months) Gathered hundreds of images from several field seasons and compiled them into a catalogue for reference.

Memorial University of Newfoundland (Burnside Heritage) Archaeological Fieldworker July 2011 – August 2011 (2 months) Learned and implemented field, surveying and lab techniques. This included several weeks of excavation, artifact treatment including cleaning and cataloguing and some mapping of the archaeological site.
