This weekly e-mail highlights interesting internship opportunities and other important information that will aid you in securing an internship! The internships listed below are just a sampling of what is available. For complete listings of all current internships, log on to connectSC at http://careers.usc.edu. New internships are added daily.

SAVE THE DATES This fall semester will be full of great Career Center events, so save the dates on your calendar now. The Career Fair will be held September 23rd. On-Campus Recruiting begins September 13th. Internship Week will be held October 4th-8th. The fall Diversity Networking Mixer will be held on September 15th.

WALK-IN HOURS The Internship Programs Office has daily walk-in hours, Monday through Friday from 9:00am-3:30pm. Stop by our office in STU B1 during our walk-in hours if you have a quick question about internships, connectSC or want to brainstorm workplace issues.

NEED COURSE CREDIT FOR AN UNPAID INTERNSHIP? Federal labor law requires that students participating in an internship must either A) be paid by the employer; or, B) be enrolled in an internship for-credit course. Do you have an unpaid internship and need course credit? If so, register for one of USC’s 10+ internship courses. The Career Center instructs an internship course, MDA 250. For a full list of internship courses offered visit the Career Center’s website, http://careers.usc.edu or stop by our office in STU B1.

F-1 international students participating in a paid internship are required to receive Curricular Practical Training (CPT) authorization from OIS which requires enrolling in an internship course at USC. F-1 international students participating in an unpaid internship should contact OIS for more details regarding work authorization requirements.

PAID INTERNSHIPS . ABC Daytime – All My Children – Intern ($10/hr) All My Children is offering a paid internship ($10.00/hour) that takes place in its busy production studio. Responsibilities include, distributing scripts and schedules to actors and production staff, copying all production paperwork, sorting and distributing fan mail and office mail, making dubs, delivering videotapes and other materials to network offices as well as other general office duties. Interns work directly with the producers and production staff. Knowledge and interest in daytime serial drama is a plus! Interns are required to work a minimum of 2 days a week from 9am to 6pm, 10am to 7pm or 12pm - 8pm. Students interested in this internship should be reliable, enthusiastic, and team players. Students should have a keen interest or majoring in television production and must be pursuing an undergraduate degree. This position is not for recent graduates. . Weissman & Markovitz Communications – Entertainment PR Intern ($8/hr) A well-established Entertainment Public Relations Firm seeks an intern to work in our office part time. This internship will provide the right person with hands on public relations experience in the major motion picture and television industries! Our internship offers the skills needed to succeed in Public Relations including writing and pitching, research and data entry, mass mailings, working with media and other special projects as they come up. . Zecco Trading, Inc. – Human Resources Intern ($10/hr) Zecco Trading is currently seeking a part time intern that will assist the Sr. HR Generalist in servicing Zecco’s 90 employees. This position will be based out of our Pasadena, CA location and will include regular interaction with our San Francisco, CA office as well. The successful candidate should be a customer centric, career focused, engaged person with impeccable soft skills. The candidate is focused on long-term career development seeing the big picture as well as the importance of the small details. This position will give a college student the opportunity to learn and be active in an HR department. The position is currently approved for a 3 to 6 month duration. Depending on work load, this position could become longer term. The HR Intern will perform varied and specialized clerical work in the Human Resources Department which requires a high degree of accuracy, discretion, and personal judgment. They will also be expected to be responsible for maintaining confidentiality of all records and correspondence. Junior and Senior level class preferred. . Anchor Bay Entertainment – Entertainment Marketing Intern (2 Openings) Exciting, fast growing, DVD home entertainment and film studio is seeking highly motivated students with strong organizational and communication skills to work as interns in their marketing department. Internships will last three months (school quarter/semester) for approximately 20-40 hours per week, depending on student’s schedule. Assist in grassroots and social media marketing initiatives. Creation of marketing and sales support materials for new DVD releases. DVD artwork coordination. Market research and industry analysis. Assist with DVD and Theatrical mock-ups and presentations for customer retailers. Provide general administrative assistance to the marketing team. Filing, faxing, scanning, photocopying, and FedEx management. Must be a sophomore-senior level undergraduate or graduate student with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Must be currently enrolled in a college or university. Applicants must have experience with all Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint, Photoshop is a bonus. E-Mail resume/cover letter to [email protected]. UNPAID INTERNSHIPS . Alchemy Entertainment – Intern Internship at Alchemy Entertainment. We produced the Warner Bros./New Line feature 17 AGAIN. We are also currently in development on several other features. Our management/production company is looking for interns to help out around the office. Responsibilities include but not limited to occasional movie/TV set visits, assisting the Development Executive, reading scripts and writing coverage, answering phones and daily office tasks. Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university. Proficient in using a computer. Highly motivated, independent and organized. . TeleSUR – News Associate The TeleSUR bureau in Washington, DC, seeks News Associates to contribute to its day-to-day reporting. TeleSUR is a 24-hour Spanish-language television news network based in Caracas, Venezuela and broadcast throughout Latin America, North America and Europe. We at TeleSUR Washington are a small team that covers both political events of importance in the capital (especially as they relate to Latin America) as well as international issues and grassroots movements. This unpaid internship offers an opportunity to contribute to a fast-growing, progressive news network as well as learn valuable hands-on reporting, shooting and editing skills. News Associates will have the chance to film, edit, report, produce and investigate stories. News Associates should be smart, adaptable, passionate, hard-working, politically progressive, and fluent in English and Spanish (near fluency is also acceptable). Filming/editing/television skills are not required, but a willingness and desire to learn is a must. Knowledge of FinalCutPro is a plus. Strong writing skills and the capacity to think critically are essential. . MTV Networks Internship Program – Legal Internships MTV Networks Internship Program in Santa Monica, CA has a few openings for interns for our Fall 2010 program, which runs from September until December. We are seeking a few more bright candidates for this specific position. These are unpaid internships for two days a week during the fall semester. Candidates must be Juniors or Seniors in college and be able to receive school credit for their work. The Business and Legal Affairs departments for Spike, MTV, Vh1, and CMT are all seeking interns for the fall 2010 semester! The interns’ main responsibilities will include drafting production services agreements and amendments, talent agreements, and supporting the in-house attorneys. Applicants should be interested in studying law in their future. The Music and Media Licensing Department are all seeking interns for fall 2010 semester! This department negotiates and secures the rights to use music and other third party materials within a production of MTV Networks. The intern will assist with drafting licenses, managing the license database, tracking payments, observing and participating in the negotiating process, and performing light research about legal procedures. . Demand Media – New Media Internship Do you lie awake at night wondering how you’ll be able to use your journalism, communications, marketing or English degree in a rapidly changing industry? Do you secretly wish you could turn your obsession with Facebook into an actual career? Do you want to learn the ins and outs of online publishing, but don’t know where to start? You’re in luck: Demand Media, one of the fastest-growing social media companies in the industry, is seeking six interns to work out of our Santa Monica office for the fall. Our internship program is highly structured, with an emphasis on education. Demand Media interns walk away with a polished résumé and working knowledge of HTML, Photoshop, Search Engine Optimization, Google Analytics and social media strategies. Demand Media editors fetch their own coffee. Work with editors to leverage social media tools and syndicate content across social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, digg, Yahoo! Shine and more. Choose timely articles and write compelling headlines and copy for homepage and newsletters of Demand Media properties like Trails.com, LIVESTRONG.COM and GolfLink.com. Attend weekly editorial meetings and participate in brainstorming sessions. Learn Demand’s proprietary publishing process from the editors of Demand Studios, and work alongside editors to maintain and improve it. Complete a long-term final project, determined by intern interest and company need. Intern will gain a thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of online publishing. Private workshops with representatives from SEO, marketing, community, product management, and more. Gain familiarity with programs that look great on a résumé, including Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Excel. A chance to collaborate with an enthusiastic, close-knit editorial team, and contribute to the overall editorial process. Specialized résumé and cover letter workshop depending on your areas of interest and career goals. Demand Media internships are extremely competitive. All applicants must be enrolled in college courses and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better. Applicants must be available 15-25 hours a week during regular business hours for eight weeks. The internship is for college credit only, but there are plenty of perks, including free parking, kitchens plentifully stocked with snacks and drinks, an office between the Third Street Promenade and the beach, and the opportunity to work at a company on the cutting edge of the journalism industry. Previous publishing experience and familiarity with social media are big pluses, but not requirements.

OUT OF STATE INTERNSHIPS . The White House Internship Program (Spring 2011) President Obama believes in the capacity of young people to move America forward. He is committed to providing young leaders from across the nation an opportunity to develop their leadership skills and fostering a continued commitment to public service through the White House Internship Program. This hands-on program is designed to mentor and cultivate today’s young leaders, strengthen their understanding of the Executive Office of the President and prepare them for future roles in public service. . A&M Octone Records – Fall 2010 Internship (New York) A&M/Octone Records is a record label founded on the principles of artist development and establishing career musicians. We are home to Maroon 5, Flyleaf, K’NAAN, Hollywood Undead, Paper Tongues and more developing artists. Located in NYC’s Union Square, the company is a joint venture with Interscope Geffen A&M Records and is distributed by Universal Music Distribution. In addition to our normal internship program, we are looking for an intern to take part in a special label project for the Fall 2010 Semester. This particular internship will focus on global marketing research, foreign entertainment law and policy and international talent searches. In addition, we will ask the intern to participate in daily office duties such as answering phones, managing digital surfaces, participating in label meetings and more. As the program continues, the intern will gain a large understanding of international entertainment industries and a general understanding of how a record label operates. Ideally, this intern would have a global understanding and an educational background or strong interest in law, foreign policy and entertainment. Bi-lingual students are encouraged to apply, but this is not necessary for the internship. We encourage the intern to be in the office as often as possible, but we are willing to accommodate all schedules as much as possible. All interns will be invited to attend artist shows, showcases and office get-togethers when available. Interns must also be able to receive academic credit and have housing in or around the NYC area in order to qualify. College credit required. Must have housing in New York City area.
