Assignment #1 – Journal Choose one character for each chapter and summarize the events of that chapter from the point of view of that character. It is suggested that you use the same character for every chapter; however, you may choose other characters if necessary. Set-up: At the top of the journal pages, center the word “Journal.” Label each chapter and write from which character’s point of view you will be writing.
Assignment #2 – Passage/Quote Highlights Choose ten quotes or passages that are most memorable to you. In a paragraph or two, explain the meaning of this passage and its importance in the novel. Set-up: At the top center, write “Quotes/Passages.” Label each quote as “Quote #1”, etc. Then write the chapter and page number where the quote was found. Put the quote/passage in quotation marks. Skip a line and give your explanation.
Assignment #3 – Film Casting If you were in charge of casting a movie about this novel, which actors or actresses do you think would best portray the main characters? Consider their physical description, things they say, what they feel, how they act, and how others act toward them. Choose three main characters from the novel, cast their role, and explain why you would choose this actor/actress for the role. Set-up: At the top center write “Movie Casting.” You should have a section for each main character. In each section, you should write the character’s name, the actor/actress you would choose for them, and the explanation of why you chose that actor/actress.
