FMA JROTC Department Course Syllabus for JROTC LET Levels 1 – 4 Course: as required 998000 Course Description:
This is a non-credit course and an amendment to the established course of instruction for the Special Education Department. This course is designed to assist the cadet in learning about themselves and understanding who they are while discovering more of the world around them . Each cadet will be taught skills that will enable them to use effective Study Skills and Conflict Resolution. They will demonstrate proper cadet appearance, explore the purpose of military traditions, customs and courtesies, Cadets will also learn to understand the diversity of our society and how to live a healthy lifestyle. They will become familiar with their role as a citizen in your community. They will assist in the classroom and make a difference in the community through Service Learning. They will be motivated to having a positive attitude and perception about learning.
Cadets will be encourage work as a team. They will be responsible for keeping up with current events. They will demonstrate how to defend opinions through real practice and interaction. Their performance will be assessed through multiple methods, hands on tests, brief written and oral assignments, peer evaluations and personal portfolios. Cadets will be able to earn rank and awards for their effort and performance.
This course is designed with three identified core-learning goals.
Goal I: Cadets will demonstrate the ability to respond to a text by employing personal experiences and critical analysis. You will begin this with through reviewing and emphasizing the importance of who you are and what you can contribute to the community. As relates to Dimensions of Learning, cadets begin with learning how to appreciate themselves, be positive role models and understand the benefit of having a positive perception about learning. This will be your first opportunity in understanding the definition of leadership and how it relates to each cadet.
Goal II: All cadets will demonstrate the ability to compose in a variety of modes by developing content, employing specific forms, and selecting language appropriate for a particular audience and purpose. This will be done through your organizing and working as teams. Goal III: All cadets will demonstrate the ability to control language by applying the conventions of Standard English in writing and speaking. This will be accomplished through leadership projects, which include current event portfolios and service learning. You will have to use initial management skills, research abilities and technology to present different types of reports.
Goal IV: All cadets will demonstrate the ability to evaluate the content, organization, and language use of texts. Using knowledge ascertained through the required text, you will utilize critical thinking, creative thinking, objective and subjective viewpoints.
1 Goal V: This course will assist all cadets in support of the core subjects of Reading/Language Arts as they relate to AYP. All cadets will learn the process of using Unlocking Your Potential (UYP). This will give the cadets the opportunity to learn about, practice and eventually master timeless training and success. They will explore the ingredients that make up individual potential, the qualities of peak performance, the role of self-image and self-esteem in determining performance, how to use a specific plan of action to attain a goal. The final is about application, results and improved life skills.
Career Connection/College
The knowledge and skills acquired through this course provide a good foundation for college majors leading to careers in fields such as management, education and public safety.

Class Participation:
There will be graded homework assignments, discussions and presentations, required readings, and other assignments. To ensure the success of each cadet, class attendance is mandatory. You must keep up with the assigned readings and written assignments. If you allow yourself to fall behind, it will be difficult but not impossible. You will need to speak with your teacher about graded homework assignments, discussions and presentations, required to catch up again. You are expected to complete ALL reading and writing BEFORE the class meets and to be prepared to discuss the material in class.
Evaluation of Student Performances:
CLASS ATTENDNCE IS MANDATORY: I expect for cadets to be prepared for classroom discussion and participation. Cadet evaluations and final grades will be based upon the successful completion of all written assignments, mid-term exams, projects, class participation, quizzes, portfolio, mandatory testing and leadership.

ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION, BOTH IN AND OUT OF SCHOOL. HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS GIVEN (FOR COMPLETION OUTSIDE OF 20% CLASS) FOR PRACTICE AND/OR PREPERATION FOR INSTRUCTION. ASSESSMENT ASSESMENTS VARIED IN FORMAT AND TASK TYPE TO 40% TESTS, QUIZZES, PROJECTS COLLECT EVIDENCE OF LEARNING MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING: TESTS, QUIZZES, (ORAL AND WRITTEN RECITATION, REPORTS, ESSAYS, PROJECTS, PRESENTATIONS, JOURNALS AND OTHER RECORDS OR DISPLAYS. Special Notes:
This Syllabus is established for the cadets with in the Special Education Department. They will receive instruction from each of the JROTC Instructors during a pre-established period and based on the Instructors planning schedule.
The cadets of this department will be assigned to the Headquarters Detachment as the fourth Platoon within the department. They will not be required to attend formations, however they will be required to hold formation in the class room setting.
The JROTC Department will combine efforts with other school departments for resources as needed or required to assist with the physical training aspect of the Special Education Program as cadets are trained in preparation for the Annual Cadet Challenge/Special Olympics Program. Instructors may report to classes and give instruction on regulation Army physical training procedures.
