CYCLING STOCKING. Frisby Turnover and Wide Ribbed Leg. A particularly neat and pretty stocking is knitted in a wide rib, and, as shown in the engraving, the top of the leg is furnished with one of the fashionable open- patterned turnovers in which wool of a bright contrasting colour is introduced with good effect. This stocking is comparatively light, it is knitted with ordinary 4-ply fingering, and is well suited for cycling and for everyday wear. The turnover measures 4 inches in depth; the length of the leg is 16 inches ; length of foot 10 inches. Required : 6 ozs. of grey and 1.4 ozs. of dark bright blue 4-ply fingering of the best quality, and four No. 14 or No. 15 steel knitting needles. Begin for the Turnover, and, using grey wool, cast 26 stitches on each of three needles, making a total of 78 stitches in the round. ?er and Wide Work in ribbing, knit 1 and purl 1, for 5 rounds. 6th round—Plain. 7th round—Make 1 , knit 2 together, and repeat the same to the end of the round. 8th round—Plain. Here turn the knitting inside out, so that what before was the wrong side now comes uppermost; and, keeping to grey wool, knit GO plain rounds for the part which is to cling round the leg beneath the turnover ; the stitches stand equally divided, 28 upon each of three needles, or 84 stitches in the round.
