REGULATIONS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE 2012 NORTHERN REGIONS MOTOCROSS REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

1. DURATION OF THE VALIDITY OF THE REGULATIONS The regulations apply to the calendar year 2012.

2. CONTROLLERS The Controllers of the Championship shall be Motorsport South Africa

3. AIM OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP The Northern Regions Regional Motocross Sub-Committee, in conjunction with the relevant Regional Committee and MSA, shall declare winners of the Championship in the following classes; however it is entitled to withhold such declaration from any Competition, should circumstances warrant such action. Only one Champion will be declared: Regional Colours - MX 50cc - MX 65cc - MX 85cc Junior - MX Pro Mini - MX High School - MX 2 & MX 2B - MX 1 - MX 3 - MX Ladies

4. RULES AND REGULATIONS These regulations are to be read in conjunction with the General Competition Rules (GCR’s) and Standing Supplementary Regulations (SSR’s) of Motorsport South Africa (MSA). These regulations must be read and understood by all Competitors.

5. ELIGIBILITY OF MOTORCYCLES The Championship is open to all riders are domiciled in the area under jurisdiction of the MSA Northern Regions and KZN Motorsport Committees and whose motorcycles and licences comply with the regulations and specifications as listed below in point 19

6. HEATS TO COUNT 6.1. The Championship will comprise of 6 (Six) scheduled events. Therefore, a total of 12 (Twelve) heats with all heats to count. 6.2 Competitors are NOT required to compete in a minimum of 60% of events in the Championship.

7. CLASSES AND POINT-SCORING 7.1 All entries MUST appear on the result sheets, even if a rider does not start the 1 st heat or does not complete racing for the day. 7.2 Manual lap scoring will be utilised, however transponders may be used by organisers at their own expense. 7.3. There shall be an average of 6 starters over the 6 events for the class in question to score points toward the Championship. 7.4 Points scoring will be in accordance with the 2012 MSA Non Circuit Motocross Handbook. 7.5 Championship scoring will be available on request from Motorsport SA, Midrand, Tel – 011 466 2440 or Fax – 0865 104 336 7.6 Classes and Technical Specifications as listed below

8. SEPARATION OF TIES

Page 1 of 5 A tie in the Championship points will be resolved in favour of the competitor having the greater number of first place wins. If the tie is not resolved, then the greater number of seconds will count, failing this, thirds and so on. If this is not effective the Regional Committees shall declare a winner on any basis it may deem fit.

9. DECLARATION OF CHAMPION The Controllers will at their sole discretion, declare the winners of the Championship, however they are entitled to withhold such declaration from any competitor should circumstances warrant such action.

10. COMPETITION NUMBERS Competition numbers for all classes will be those as issued by Motorsport S.A (Head Office) only.

11. PROGRAMME OF EVENTS, RACE DISTANCE AND RACING ORDER 11.1 PROGRAMME OF EVENTS 06:30 – 07:30 - Documentation 07:30 - Riders Briefing 08:00 - Practice (5 Laps per Class) 10:00 - First Heat

11.2 RACING ORDER MX 50cc - 10 minutes + 1 lap MX 2 - 15 minutes + 1 lap MX Pro Mini - 15 minutes + 1 lap MX125 - 15 minutes + 1 lap MX Ladies - 12 minutes + 1 lap MX Vets & Masters - 15 minutes + 1 lap MX 2B - 15 minutes + 1 lap MX 1 - 15 minutes + 1 lap MX 85cc Junior - 15 minutes + 1 lap MX 65cc - 12 minutes + 1 lap MX Support & Enduro - 12 minutes + 1 lap

11.3 Times may be altered to accommodate, however the programme of events should not be altered. The 50cc, 65cc & 85cc classes may be combined at the discretion of the COC if either class entries are below 5. The Ladies class may be combined with either the Open Support, Enduro or the MX3 classes. With the exception of the Pro Mini class, all the Senior Classes may be combined at the discretion of the COC, should circumstances so dictate. All classes will score separately. 11.4 Only in exceptional cases, other than those stated in above, may Championship classes be combined after consultation between the Clerk of the Course and the affected competitors. If classes are combined, then such must be moved up in the order of events to slot into the race position of the first affected class.

12 SCRUTINEERING 12.1 Self Scrutineering will now apply. Compliant forms will be available at registration and they must be returned completed to the MSA Steward/Jury President. 12.2 A Scrutineering sticker will be given to the rider on completion of the form. Competitors are warned that should the motorcycle fail a sample spot check by the authorised scrutineer before practice sessions, then actions will be taken against that competitor (Refer to GCR 93(iii) & SSR 226) – the Jury to decide appropriate penalty.

13 PRACTICE All classes will practice as per the race schedule or may be combined, subject to the discretion of the Clerk of the Course.

14 MULTIPLE CLASSES A rider may enter any/multiple classes provided his/her age and motorcycle conform to the category and has paid to do so.

Page 2 of 5 15 CLOSURE OF CIRCUIT 15.1 The closure of the circuit prior to Regional Championship events will be from 18:00 on the Sunday, one week prior to the event. The responsibility for establishing if a circuit is open lies with the Competitor. 15.2 Organisers are reminded of the provisions in the 2012 MSA Non Circuit Handbook with regard to circuit arrangements.

16 TROPHIES & PRIZE MONEY 16.1 Trophies to 3rd place for Juniors and Seniors, and medals or participation certificates for the top 10 competitors in the Junior classes only. 16.2 Clubs are not obligated to give prize money, however, the clubs are encouraged to find individual “non conflicting” sponsors to fund prize money collectively, or for individual classes. 16.3 Hole shot prizes are also encouraged

17 ENTRIES 17.1 Entry fees for 2012 are as follows (includes MSA MX Levy): 1st Class Entered - R500.00 2nd Class Entered - R300.00 Family for 2nd entry onwards - R300.00 17.2 Telephonic entries will not be accepted. 17.3 Clubs and Promoters may send SMS reminders preceding events, however the onus remains that of the Competitor to establish when and where events are to be held. 17.4 Late registration fee of R100.00 may be charged after 07:30 at the discretion of the race secretary. 17.5 The submission of an entry in any acceptable format before the cutoff date is the sole responsibility of each Competitor

19. CLASSES & TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS (All classes require a minimum of a Regional Motocross Licence, except Open Support Class and Enduro Support Class) 19.1 MX 50cc - Open to riders 4 – 9yrs - Engine capacity not exceeding 51cc - Wheel Diameter – 10” rear and 10” or 12” front - Water and Air-cooled

19.2 MX 65cc - Open to riders 7 – 11yrs - Engine capacity not exceeding 65cc 2 stroke - Wheel Diameter – 12” rear and 14” front

19.3 MX 85cc Junior - Open to riders 8 – 13yrs - Engine capacity not exceeding 85cc 2 stroke - Wheel Diameter – 14” rear and 17” front

19.4 MX Pro Mini - Open to riders 10 – 15yrs - Engine capacity not exceeding 85cc 2 stoke and 150cc 4 stroke - Wheel Diameter – 16” rear and 19” front

19.5 MX125 - Open to riders 13 – 17yrs - Engine capacity not exceeding 125cc 2 stroke ONLY

19.6 MX 2 - Open to riders 14 years and older - Engine capacity restricted to 125cc 2 stroke and 250cc 4 stroke (maximum)

19.7 MX 2B - Open to riders 13 – 15yrs - Engine capacity not exceeding 125cc 2 stroke

- Open to riders 15yrs and older - Engine capacity not exceeding 250cc 4 stroke - Wheel Diameter – 19” rear and 21” front 19.7.1 MX 2B is restricted to riders who have not previously competed and finished in the first 3 places in the 125cc class regionally, or have not finished in the top 10 places at National level in either the MX High School or MX 2 and MX 1 classes. Once a rider moves to the MX 2 class, he/she may not return to the MX 2B class.

19.8 MX Ladies - Open riders 11yrs and older - Engine capacity not exceeding 85cc 2 stroke and 150cc 4 stroke

- Open to riders 13yrs and older - Engine capacity not exceeding 125cc 2 stroke

- Open to riders 16yrs and older - Engine capacity not exceeding 250cc 4 stoke - Wheel Diameter – Mixed sizes as per manufacturers

19.9 MX1 - Open to riders 16yrs and older - Engine capacity unrestricted - Wheel Diameter – 19” rear and 21” front

19.10 MX 3 - Open to riders 29yrs and older - Engine capacity unrestricted - Wheel Diameter – 19” rear and 21” front 19.10.1 The combined MX3 class will score as one Championship, but will operate on an age related bonus points system.

19.11 Open Support (Minimum of a Club Motocross Licence Required) 1 - Open to riders 13 – 15yrs - Engine capacity not exceeding 125cc 2 stroke

2 - Open to riders 15yrs and older - Engine capacity not exceeding 250cc 4 stroke - Wheel Diameter - 19” rear and 21” front

3 - Open to riders 16yrs and older - Engine capacity unrestricted

Competitors who have not competed nor score in National/Regional Championship points in the previous 3 years, nor finished in the top 3 places in the support class in the preceding year.

19.12 Enduro Support (Minimum of a Club Enduro/Offroad Licence Required) - ONLY open to competitors that hold Enduro or Offroad motorcycle licences

20. ONE EVENT LICENCES (R150.00) 20.1 Competitors that take one event licences will be able to score on the day, but will not score towards the championship.

Page 4 of 5 20.2 Should competitors upgrade to a Regional licence with the correct insurance, before Round 2 of the Regional Championship, the results from Round 1 will be added to the championship points. 20.3 All on day event licence applicants must also take out a one event medical insurance at a cost of R475.00 per event. For MX only, there is currently a special dispensation to waive this fee ONLY if the competitor can provide proof of private medical insurance (i.e. competitor must be able to produce a 2012 medical insurance card or formal letter that clearly confirms his/her membership to said scheme.
