The warm home discount scheme was brought in this year to replace the old social tariffs for people most at risk of fuel poverty over the winter months. It provides eligible customers with a one- off £120 payment from their electricity supplier that will be credited onto their electricity account or pre-payment meter.

Who can get the Warm Home Discount:

Pension Credit customers who are automatically considered for the rebate

Customers will be elgible for this energy rebate if on the qualifying date of 11 September 2011 all the following apply:

 They receive only the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit (no Savings Credit)  Their name, or partner’s name was on the electricity bill  Their electricity account was with one of the energy suppliers participating in this scheme – Atlantic, British Gas, EDF Energy, E.ON, Equipower, Equigas, Manweb, M&S Energy, npower, Sainsbury's Energy, Scottish Gas, Scottish Hydro, ScottishPower, Southern Electric, SSE, Swalec and Utility Warehouse.

If customers meet the conditions above they do not need to do anything to get the rebate, it will be paid automatically onto their electricity account before 28th March 2012.

Eligible Customers who need to apply for the rebate

The rebate will also be paid by suppliers if the customer falls into what they deem to be a vulnerable group. This criteria varies from supplier to supplier, but the criteria the big 6 suppliers are using is listed below. The important point to note is that if customers meet this criteria, it will not be automatically paid to them, they must apply themselves to their electricity supplier.
