Job Description: MAINTENANCE II
SALARY RANGE: $14.00/hr – 17.00/hr FLSA: Nonexempt
SUMMARY OF POSITION
Maintains and operates the District’s wastewater/water treatment system in a safe, effective, and efficient manner; requires technical expertise. Duties include maintaining facilities and equipment. Must be able to effectively communicate and speak English.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
1. Reports to: Wastewater/Water Maintenance Supervisor.
2. Directs: This is a non-supervisory position.
3. Other: Works integrally with District employees and District customers and contractors.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
Monitors all equipment and gauges at regular intervals, makes adjustments as needed, and prepares work orders on equipment that is in need of repair;
Assists in maintenance and repair of plant machinery and equipment, including pumps and motors;
Operates light equipment including forklift, crane, backhoe, and winch truck and drives truck as necessary;
Repair or replace aerators, compressors, valves, gear drive units, chlorine and sulfur dioxide systems, bearings, seals, drive shafts, belts, pipes, actuators, mowers and other lawn equipment, vehicles, water lines, and other units in the wastewater plant;
Ability to troubleshoot a problem and make recommendations on repairs;
Some fabrication work required on some units;
Excavate and repair underground appurtenances.
Maintain inventory of supplies and notify supervisor when they need to be reordered;
Assists in cleaning and maintenance of facilities including, but not limited, to painting, mowing, and making repairs; and
Performs other duties as assigned by the maintenance supervisor.

Knowledge of: methods, practices and equipment used in wastewater/water treatment plants; including activated sludge wastewater process, solids treatment, and energy recovery; and safety procedures and first aid training.
Skill/Ability to: handle dangerous chemicals; understand and follow detailed oral or written instructions; demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication; work with direct supervision; attend and understand technical courses, perform basic mathematical calculations; operate specialized equipment; detect and repair, or report for repair, problems in equipment operations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers; tolerate outside conditions, including exposure to adverse weather conditions; and maintain appropriate necessary certifications; Texas driver’s license applicable to job responsibilities, and a good driving record. Must be able to lift and maneuver 50 pounds.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
High school graduation, or its equivalent, plus three to five years of experience in wastewater/water treatment system maintenance; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED
TCEQ water/wastewater class “C” license required; and appropriate Texas driver’s license with good driving record.
